Unhappy Blackberry Curve - keypad broken and unable to enter password

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BB Curve (8300) and the keypad is broken, so I can't enter my password properly. I cannot enter certain keys on the top line of the "qwerty" keys (for example, "q" and "r" aren't working, but "t" and "i" work just fine). My trackball is also defective - it scrolls, but it does not select (but that's not really an issue, as I'm able to hit "enter" or "return" on the keypad). I'm able to enter the password on my laptop when attempting to backup my handheld on the BB desktop manager, but it just gets hung up on "transfer in progress." When I select “backup device” and enter the password on the desktop manager, my handheld beeps and I think I'm supposed to enter the password again on the device - but again, I'm unable. I've read that if I enter an incorrect password 10 times, it will wipe out the data on my BB and I can reset the password - but I need to enter "blackberry" to even reset my password - and AGAIN, I can't even enter "blackberry," due to the defective keypad. Can someone out there, please?! Can I force the keypad somehow to recognize the defective keys (I even took apart the casing and manually depressed the keys with a toothpick), or can I backup my device without entering the password on the device itself? I'm very frustrated - please help! I’m not on BES and have not synced or backed up in months (long story around why not). Thank you in advance.

Marlon

You should be able to backup the device in DM without having to enter the password on the BlackBerry. If you can not through DM then you are stuck. I would see if you can get the BlackBerry fixed through forum sponsor HorizonWirelessOnline.com - Horizon Wireless, The World’s Cellular Repair Center ß

You definitely do not need to enter the password on the BB when backing up. However, your BB may be asking if it's ok to enable Mass Storage Mode. I'd disable Mass Storage Mode or pull the media card and then attempt to backup.

There's really no working around this sort of hardware issue. Backup and then restore to a replacement.

Default RE: Blackberry Curve - keypad broken and unable to enter password

My Curve 8310 has decided to do the same thing and a colleague also experienced this.
Sounds like a bug with Blackberry Curves, unfortunately mine is playing up 2months after the warranty expires so they won't replace it.
