Hey, before I get flamed I did search extensively and nobody really had any conclusive answers...

I'm running smoothwall (linux distro) for my firewall and I have QoS running on it to prioritize traffic according to importance (think uma = more important; xbox live/bittorrent = less important) to try to manage my traffic bandwith better. I also have multiple BB Curves that have UMA enabled. I'm trying to figure out the incoming/outgoing network ports that UMA is using to actually handle the calls.

It looks like the tmobile wireless access points handle QoS by assigning different priorities to different devices, but handles traffic based on what network port and protocol it is using. Alot of people have said ports 500 and 4500 UDP are the two ports, but I've also heard 14001, 50, 51, and some others. Plus I can't figure out which one is used for incoming and which one is used for outgoing. If anyone knows for sure I'd appreciate it. The reps at T-mobile told me I don't have ports, that it goes over my internet . It is connecting and working just fine, its just that when I have a couple gigs downloading and xbox live going it doesn't work too well.

Per this document in the RIM knowledgebase, TCP ports 500 and 4500 are used for UMA, while 443 is used for BIS connectivity.

The packets are also signed as voice packets, so if your firewall allows for prioritizaion of packets based on type, you could set voice priority to high.

4500 and 500 are the typical ports used for IPSec VPN (specifically ISAKMP is 500/UDP, IPSec NAT traversal is 4500 - usually UDP first then TCP second). If Smoothwall has any settings in that regard that they label as IPSec/VPN related then that would be a good place to tweak as well.

The Cisco IPSec/VPN client also uses port 10000/UDP, not sure if the BB does. Additionally, if you can also filter by raw protocols (other than TCP/UDP) then also prioritize protocols 47, 50 and 51. While not strictly necessary, if you're gonna do it might as well cover all the bases top to bottom.
