How is your BlackBerry configured? Are you connected to a BES server? Do you use the desktop redirector or is everything wireless?

We are using BES and all set everything to wireless. BES has Manager access also to user's mailDB.

Keyword here is "local replica". BES wireless email sync is with the server replica not local replica of mail db. Try performing a manual replication between the replicas. Other than having BES as manager, the user needs to be at least Editor in the mail db's ACL.

Adding to my points above, if your mail server is R6/6.5, make sure you have set to replicate unread marks. Check the database properties beanie's tab for "Replicate unread marks" and make sure "All servers" are selected. This option ensure all replicas have the marks sync.

I can replicate the problem of unread/read marks not syncing across to the BB device. I have a local replica and all the above points have been checked and enabled. At the moment we have a call open with RIM and going over Lotus Notes tech notes. Found some tech notes that say this issue of unread/read marks was resolved in version 6.0.3 and later, so in theory we should not be having an issue but we are ). Let me know if you resolve your issue.
Environment I am running with 189 users.
Model: 7290 That I can replicate issue on.
BlackBerry Enterprise Server, Version 4.0.4.8
Lotus Notes Server: Release 6.5.4 HF102 for Windows/32

when we resolve ours I let you know. Good Luck.

make sure that the BES has Manager access to the mail database, otherwise
the read/unread table is not accessiable to the BES Domino server...

Hello again,
Thanks for the above technote "noname" appreciate it. What was suggested has been checked and confirmed OK. Rim got back to me and suggested I delete and undelete the Desktop [CMIME] service book. Hard reset the device and then check, still no joy. I took the step of deleting my account, recreated it and still no Joy. I am starting to move to the position that BES does not sync the unread/read marks but will happily be proven wrong. Will keep you up to date so hopefully we can sort this out for a positive result. Waiting for RIM to come back with other suggestions.

ACL's and DB properties are correct.

Guys, the exact scenario is that If the message has replicated to my local replica before reading it on my Blackberry, that message will remain unread on my local replica (though it has been read on Blackberry) even by doing manual replication. The BES and myself has Manager Access to mail database. On the other hand, replication between Notes client and the server has no problem, READ/UNREAD mark are in sync if the message has READ on Notes Client.

Hi Sharezer,
Following my call from RIM we are running fixup, updall and compact over the state database this weekend hopefully. We run these tasks over the database via program docs during the week but RIM want the server down when we do this. I keep thinking it's got to be somthing simple I have missed so going back to basics.

Hi,

Good Luck! the same instruction given by RIM to me. Unfortunately, it does not fix the problem. I did offline maintenance also on the mail server, delete my old local replica and create new local replica after the maintenance. But still getting the same problem.

Hi there,

The user has just come back to me and said all is now working. I asked what was done and he could not remember, just said they were playing around with the device the other night. I have asked them to try and remember as my blackberry still has the problem. Once I find out will let you know.

good luck.

Hey cscaustralia,

I noticed that you took a step to removed and readded your profile on BES. By doing so, you actually broke the message stubs that link between the state db and your handheld. I doubt you will be able to reconcile the marks for those existing messages. However, for newly delivered messages, they should work fine if as per KB-05253 has been setup and checked.

Hey Sharezer,

Is your mail database on a Domino cluster? If yes, then I would recommend this:

(0) Perform a offline Domino maintenance on mail db on primary server
(1) Perform a manual replication between the server replicas cluster and verify unread counts equal
(2) Then perform a manual replication between a server replica and local replica
(3) Perform a "reconcile now" on BlackBerry

Guys,

I raised this issue both to RIM and Lotus and just got their response 2 days ago. And here are there comments:

RIM: " Blackberry just sync thru BES with server replica, it is unaware of local replica ".

Lotus: " The Blackberry synchronization process does not update the unread activity log therefore messages will never be marked as unread in a replica copy. This is not a Notes issue. you will need to contact BB support and open a ticket to request an enhancement."

Any comment from you Guys????

Check out this IBM doc - http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview...=utf-8&lang=en

In it there is a link under Related information...
Setup and Details on the Enhanced Unread Functionality

BTW, RIM statement is true. Hence I emphasized checking on server replicas, especially in clustered Domino servers.
