I interpret much of that to the fact that international travel is relatively rare among US residents, and needing medical care while abroad is even more unlikely. For the international contingent -- they really don't have a dog in the fight.

IMO that's what makes some of the fear responses that I see in how the public is responding to this debate quite fascinating -- very few people have any practical experience upon which to base their opinions. Even fewer have probably actually read the bill, where nothing in the current proposal is getting this country even close to a true single-payer model. Yet the fear-mongering continues and thus hinders the important debate that does need to take place. It is part of the reason that I so despise politicians of both parties and the political flunkies who serve them.

Wish I could help you djm. I've traveled outside of the US many times. To some countries that I would be very worried about testing the quality of their health care. Fortunately, I've never had any medical problems at those times.

And that is a key point. We are, largely, blessed with the fact that we have not been exposed to these archaic systems.

Fortunately for me, when I have been in need while abroad I have been treated quite well -- better than the capitalist in me feels that I should have been treated given the fact that I have not paid taxes in the UK or France.
