Question Installing Desktop Manager v.4.2 on Vista Laptop

Please Login to Remove!

I am trying to download and install DM v4.2 on my vista laptop and it downloads ok, but then when I come to open it and install it tells me that this application is not a valid Win32 application. I do not have a previously installed DM on my computer. Help anyone?

Give this a try: Right click on the .exe file and selecet "run as administrator." Let us know what happens.

Download it again because the file might be corrupted.

It didn't occur to me to try this, so I did and it still tells me the same thing. Any other solutions?

Are you installing the latest version 4.2 SP2? If you have a CD, throw that one out. Download from here:

Download and install SP1, then upgrade to SP2. Works like a charm and have done it on 2 of my Vista laptops.

Nuopos,

Tried that last night after reading your post. No difference. It still tells me this is not a valid Win32 application.

This is getting old and I'm getting frustrated. Starting to think theres a setting on my laptop that's not letting me download the manager...Any other ideas?

Question

Okay, here's what I did:

I download Mozilla Firefox and downloaded V4.2.2 on it. I found this as a suggestion on another site. So it downloads fine and the installation starts and everything goes ok. So after I choose all my options and stuff and it was starting to download, an error message comes up telling me:

Error 2738: Could not access VBScript run time for custom action.

Ok, what is this people and how do I fix it? I was almost there!

My Vista laptop is 32bit. Does that make any difference?

Default Fixed!

Ok, here's what I did.

To fix the "not a valid win32 application" error, I download and installed Mozilla Firefox and downloaded DM v4.2.2 through that.

When I got the VBScript error during installation, I searched up the error code and found this solution on another site:

Open CMD as Administrator:

Type: cd %windir%\System32

And then type: regsvr32 vbscript.dll

It will then tell you it was successfull. Restart computer and restart the installation process.

Worked like a charm! I'm so excited it's finally fixed...I've been working on figuring this out for weeks now...About time huh?

I tried the above, and the win32 issue is still apparent. Sheesh.
