Default OS: 8100 4.2.1.168/4.2.1.103 (Tmo)

Please Login to Remove!

A dude on a different BB forum said he had this OS on a replacement pearl he got yesterday. So far he hasn't discovered any new features though (just the usual "smoother", "more solid" spiel). I heard somewhere that Tmob was due for a new one any day now. Anybody know more? And I forget how to see what OS is on the phone.

08/15/07: Edit to the above original post:

TMobile has now released package v4.2.1.168/app v4.2.1.103 plt 2.3.0.82

It is available here:
TMobile.com

Instructions for loading this OS on ANY carrier's 8100:

Instructions for installing:

1. Make sure you have the latest version of Desktop Manager installed. It's 4.2 SP2. (The version listed on the TMo site is quite outdated, I don't recommend using that one.)
2. Download the above file to the PC then install it to the PC by running the file you downloaded.
3. Locate the vendor.xml file and delete it. It's located in c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader
4. Plug in BB and Open Desktop Manager. You should be prompted to upgrade.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization." Don't unplug from the PC & Don't remove the battery unless the spinning hourglass has been there for 30 minutes or more. If the hourglass has been spinning for more than 30 minutes continuously you will need to wipe the device with JL_Cmder (close out of Desktop Manager during this process.) You will then end up with a white screen with small icons and an error code number like 507 or 543.

If you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507/543, simply connect to DM again and run application loader again and it should load the OS to the device.

Edited Blackberry.alx's and LBS.alx's are located here

*****08/17/07: Edit: TMo has pulled this OS for unknown reasons. It is not available to download at this time. The latest OS for the 8100 can be found using the link below:*****

Thanks. It's ready to run if they installed it on his replacement phone. I suspect it'll show up pretty quick on the site. It's been awhile since Tmob did theirs, I'm interested to see what they did.

This is what was posted on the other site!

On August 13th, a new software will be available on t-mobile.com/bbupgrade for the 8100.

The new SW, version 4.2..1.103, will fix the following issues:

Daylight Savings Patch (DST2007) xxx8211; The new software will now included the DST2007 Patch
Audio - 2-5 second incoming audio delay
ABC indicator stuck on home screen
Reboot problem when switch to a blue tooth headset while on phone
Disappearing/Missing Call logs, SMS, Email and MMS messages
Freeze Issues
myFaves empty/transparent icon
Keypad unlocks at will
Voice only customers will now have access to the Instant Messaging application
To ensure customers download this new software, we will be sending out a sms message to Pearl users advising them to go to t-mobile.com/bbupgrade to download the new software

In order to prevent calls to customer care, the online instructions on how to download the handheld and desktop software has been updated to include screen shots and step by step instructions. [/FONT]

The benefits of the new software has been posted as well to encourage customers to download the software."

Did dude say if the T-Mobile Zen theme was the classic 4.2.0 up-down scroll list, or the newer 4.2.1 grid style? I'm curious to see if T-Mo listened to all the complainers about the grid style and retro-engineered the up-down back into their branded release.

It will be almost identical to the .101 version already released. TMo Zen still will have the icons (grid style.)

For the newer t-mobile bb users, are there any screenshots anywhere showing the difference in the zen themes grid style versus the previous list style?

dang! having played with both, I really like the up-down better. I might just be staying on .0.73 then, it's really solid.

Someone (San Francisco maybe) posted a fix to get the icons back in the list style. I've been looking for it but can't find it. If someone knows of the fix, please post it.

yeah, it's not a "fix" though, it's a hack - different beast. Basically you're using codeballs from a previous OS release on a later OS release -- this may work, but it may (not will, but may) introduce instability. I personally am unwilling to risk finding out there's a bug at the most inopportune moment of device usage.

I need (want, need, what's the difference ) my device to be stable, it's the recipient of 911 info from all my automated systems monitoring for the company. That last thing I need when a server goes down is my BB to go down as well... (talk about taking a bad day and making it worse)

I have version 4.2.1.9.3 on my T-Mobile Pearl. It's not the one that was posted on the forum and it works fine for me. So why you would wait for Tmob version is beyond me..

Yeah it's been out for a while. We've downloaded and used it and want to try something new. What's wrong with that?
