Post How to make your Yellow trackball white again instruction

Please Login to Remove!

1. 4 Tablespoons of Clorox.

2. 1 teaspoon of salt

3. 1 teaspoon of lemon or lime

Mix all of the ingredients and put your pearl trackball in there for 4 hours in the sun; the longer the better the result is. After you've finished cleaning up your trackball with excess water, the pearl should turn white again.

Alright, this is bizarre. Where did you get this from? And have you done it?

Finally:

As in before and after.

I agree. That combo of ingredients seems like something you would see on a science show, a strong acid bath "watch this explode" kind of thing. Any one of those things in an open wound, you are toast. All three, where's my battlefield morphine shot.

I'm not doing it, seems too harsh.

And letting it sit in the sun for a few hours? That seems unnecessary.

Maybe the OP is joking and the hint he put was the "moron salt."

This might be legit. I did some poking around and it seems as if salt and lemon juie is used to clean white piano keys and stained toliets. Don't know about adding the clorox or the sun part! I hope the OP get's back to us with the scoop!

i know how to remove the trackball assembly from the phone, but how do you get the actual trackball out ?

i've usually cleaned up mine with a q-tip & alcohol and it cleans up pretty good. if i remembered how white my trackball should be, i would know to compare

It's not like he's suggesting clorox and ammonia.....I don't think anything is going to blow up with that combo. I ordered a new trackball a while back but haven't installed it. When I get home in a week I'll give this a try.

You have to unsnap the metal clip and separate the pieces. Then the ball will come out as well as all the mini rollers. Just make sure you pay attention to how they come apart.

Can you tell me where you ordered just the trackball? I did not know you could just buy that individual part. Thanks

He bought the whole assembly. You still cannot order just the ball. I think two sites had them. One for 59.00 and one for 32.00. I beleive both sites
are sold out though....

Look at my thread on the trackball disassembly. While I did not take apart the rollers, etc. you can see the clips that John is talking about.

What I would do is mark the sides with a Sharpie, maybe blue line on the pieces that go on one side, black on the other. That way you know which way everything goes back together.

You can also look around in BBF. There was a member who posted pics of this trackball completely disassembled. Gross pics as his trackball was filthy, but it still gives you an idea.

Here, I found my trackball pics and the ones from the member that had disassembled his. I edited his since the filth on it was really disgusting to look at.

If you look at it, disassembly is real easy. And if you mark the trackball where I indicate, putting it back together should be a breeze.

As you can see below there is not much to the entire device.

I cleaned up the below pic. You don't want to see what it looked like.

What the hell, here is what the trackball looked like before I edited it. The horror, the horror......

I don't ever remember my trackball turning yellow. It's turned very dark over time, however.
