Default Help with unlocked Storm 9530

Hi I recently unlocked my Storm 9530 which was previously locked to Telus, I entered the unlock code and it was successfully unlocked, however I cannot make/receive calls or send messages. Where my reception indicator is all I see is "SOS". My SIM card is with Fido, and I tried to find the SIM pin because in my SIM card menu my SIM card is set to "disabled" I tried 4 different codes under the "Enable Security" option, and now I only have 1 try left. Should I call Fido to get my SIM pin? Or would I have to wait until it asks me for my PUK code and then get that from Fido? I'm not sure if I'm even going about this the right way, do I need the SIM pin/PUK code to get my phone to work? or is there something else that I should be doing?

Before you do anything else read this link. Also make sure the SIM is properly seated if all your getting is SOS. You should also pull the battery to reload the OS clean to insure all services are reset.

Yes I checked and my BB is definitely unlocked. I also pulled the battery and checked the SIM card. When my phone turns on, at the top it will say "Searching for GSM" or something similar to that, there will be an "X" where my service indicator is, but then after several seconds it will return to SOS. This is what it says in my mobile network options:

Mobile Network: Fido
Network Selection Mode: Automatic
Network Technology: GSM/UMTS
Network Mode: 3G & 2G

I have exactly the same problem. I purchased a Verizon Blackberry 9530 and then got it unlocked. Now when I insert my sim card (I'm on the Virgin Mobile Canada network), under Manage Connections, Virgin is listed as the Mobile Network. However, on the home screen I see the SOS icon, and I am unable to make any calls, I get "call failed".
I spoke to Virgin and they say the phone is "incompatible" with the Virgin carrier.
Is there a way to resolve this other than switching my network provider?
I understand the phone will work with Rogers, Fido and Chatr. Why it can't work with Virgin I don't know. Is there a fix for this problem?
