I just recently got a 9330 Curve with OS 5. I updated to 6 without any issues. So, I say go for it.

Verizon is pushing new 9330 devices out with OS6. It runs reasonably well.

Is OS6 available for a Curve 8520? I've not seen any information so possibly not, but I thought I would check for sure.

No, there is no OS 6 for the 85xx-series. It doesn't have the specs to run OS 6 so it probably won't get it.
