Default Several Misc Questions

Please Login to Remove!

Have some misc questions about my relatively new 9000 -

1) I know battery life is poor, but should it be so bad that when I'm listening to streaming audio that it sucks battery faster than it can charge?

2) My speakerphone is no longer as loud as it used to be. It's turned all the way up, but only half as loud as it has been. I think I used to have audio boost turned on, but I don't think it's working. Any ideas?

3) If you have a specific theme loaded, and change the background image, then everytime you select that theme, the new background image returns. Anyway to get the default background back?

1) Could be the Operating System that you are running. Typically the newer 4.6 and 5.0 builds are better with power management.

2) Could be a setting somewhere...who knows.

3) Yes, there is an option to reset the background to default...i can't remember where it is though...

Yes. You are using the device's radio AND (depending on the type of streaming media) playing using the media player or a 3rd party app. If it's video that you're streaming, the backlight is probably on steady. There probably isn't much more (other than talking on the phone at the same time) you could do to strain device resources like the battery.

While we do expect that of our devices, if the power consumption exceeds the charging rate, then of course it will drain even while charging, albeit at a slower rate. Are you charging via USB (500 ma), a 3rd party charger (e.g. a Moto Razr charger (500 ma) or are you using the BlackBerry charger that came with your phone (700 ma)?

Have you done any OS upgrades? And have you read the posts regarding taking the back off the phone while playing an mp3 and testing a part that may be blocking / pressing against the speaker? (this does not involve disassembling the device, just taking the battery cover off).

Depends on your OS. In 5.0, you reset it from Options, Theme. IIRC, in 4.6, you can reset it within Media, Explore.

Thanks Klotar,

1) Using the OEM charger with a dock. I think that in Alarm Clock and even Bedside mode, the backlight is draining. Will try to back out of Alarm Clock and listen with a black screen and see if that helps.

2) 4.6.0.304 is my OS. Haven't gone through other low-volume posts, but I'll check out them out.

3) I'm familiar with Media Explore but can't seem to ever find the original image.

3) Go into your pictures, open up a picture, press the menu key and select Reset Home Screen Image.

Thanks, jsconyers. I understand how to set an image as background. I don't know how to find the image that came with the default themes.

What I instructed was not to set the images but to RESET to the default theme image.

I have found that some types of streaming actually heat up the battery whereas other types of streaming don't seem to. IE: If I use Moodio FM, my unit heats up pretty bad. But if I'm just streaming and MP3 directly from an URL, then it doesn't seem to heat up as bad.

Anyway, whenever the battery is heating up, it won't charge. I end up having to let the unit cool for 15 minutes then plug it back in to resume streaming audio.

Weird.
