So, I've done all this deleting *yay*!
I opened DM & App loader..
Checked and unchecked what I wanted..
Click next and I get this:

"The application "Browser" cannot be loaded, because it requires the following applications that are not available:

net.rim.blackberry.xml"

Little help? Hehe

-edit-
nevermind =) Someone told me how to fix this..
Shoulda realized to send service books =D

Sending service books isn't the issue. You need to re-edit your Blackberry.alx file.

Did you go through the apploader all the way to the end? Also, make sure if you have a CDMA device that you remove the tmo myfaves .cod's as they may cause errors on your device.

This has been completed successfully. It turns out a reboot was necessary. I tried the Apploader again today and it loaded all the themes.

Thanks for all your help. You guys are great.

Still leery of deleting without checking first. So far the advice here has been great. In anycase, I've gotten rid of unused themes, pictures, video, languages. However, there seem to be a few files that have languages associated with them (i.e., varying versions with different languages).

net_rim_platform_im_resource__af.cod (a lot of versions I won't list)
net_rim_platform_resource__ca.cod (same)
net_rim_platformapps_resource__ar.cod (same)

There are others, but that's the gist. Overall, each is small but in total they add up to a fair amount of space.

Thanks.

I'm not 100% sure, but when I plugged in my phone today, to finish this optimizing stuff, I had an option in the app loader to delete most of those anyway. I was able to check/uncheck any languages I didn't want.. Maybe your's will be the same? Saves the worry of hurting the phone deleting something you shouldn't hehe

Lol, I'm just so confused! I did re-edit the file, so maybe that is what fixed it. I realized I just deleted the "XXX" of the vendorIDs, not the whole _vendorID="xxx", maybe what was causing the grief.

I needed to send service books anyway, which just became a big pain.. but that's another story entirely.

All in all, I'm VERY happy I finally took the time to read and follow this guide. I'm at 35mb free right now, I could get more if I deleted some 3rd party apps, but it's definitely a major improvement!

My dad heard that I was doing this and he was like, "well if you kill it, you can put the original back I guess, but when I did the deleting of other languages with windows millenium (to free space) it screwed up everything because they were all bundled, are you sure it's not the same?"

Glad to know that it's not the same =) Whats funny is he stands by and watches as a delete OS files from a $600 phone :P

Quick question, I did this a couple weeks ago and last night I checked show all on accident. While looking through I realized that the PTT icon was still there, so I clicked on it. It says "error starting net_rim_bb_phone_ptt_app: Module 'KnJCDE' not found". Did I do this correctly, or is there one more module I forgot to delete to rid the phone completely of PTT? Thanks.

So, you deleted all your sms messages? Nothing in this procedure would delete all your sms messages.

The browser is likely due to a lost service book. Resend your service books.

Could this mean that you deleted the KnJCDE.cod and not the net_rim_bb_phone_ptt_app one? Would make sense, seeing as the app is there, but it cant find the module hehe
Check in your Java folder for it?

I know one way to do it is on your phone..
Go into Set Up internet Email - on the first page under setting it'll say Service Books

I know tmobile also has a send service books options on their my t-mobile page. Not sure where it is for all carriers, but I think all carriers do the same.

Worst comes to worst, call your customer service, and ask them to send em!

Default missing file

thanks for the detailed instructions. How much memory is ideal/acceptable for optimum performance?

RE the item below. I miss my room service ringer.
When I try the steps below I cannot find the following file:
net_rim_bb_profiles_tunes_tunebundles_tunes8700g.c od

I had seen it before in other os's. But for the 8700g 4.2.1.107 the file that is avail is called net_rim_bb_profiles_tunes.cod. Same thing for 8100 4.2.1.107.
Anyway if I copy this file it ask me if I want to overwrite the same file name in my 8320 4.2.2.180 java folder.
Also I tried the file called: net_rim_bb_media_tunebundles_sonicnetworks.cod but same deal as this file already exists in the new OS.
If I change the file name to something like net_rim_bb_profiles_tunes1.cod or net_rim_bb_media_tunebundles_sonicnetworks1.cod it doesnt seem to work.

Anyway can you point me to the net_rim_bb_profiles_tunes_tunebundles_tunes8700g.c od file. I assume it exists somewhere on the site.

Bonus tip:

Did you have an old 8700g or 8100 Blackberry that had those ringtones and notifiers that you really liked, but lost them in in an upgrade or new BB? Simply download and install one of those old OS's (any 4.2.0 OS for the Pearl will have it,) then go to the java folder and move the following .cod from that java folder to your current OS java folder. Once you copy it out of that folder you can go to Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs and uninstall that OS that you don't need (don't uninstall your current OS, though .)

net_rim_bb_profiles_tunes_tunebundles_tunes8700g.c od

Once you've moved that into the current OS java folder then go back to your Blackberry.alx file and find the following:

<fileset Sound="Tunes8700g" Java="1.0">
<files>
net_rim_bb_media_tunebundles_sonicnetworks.cod
</files>
</fileset>

add the following so it looks like this:

<fileset Sound="Tunes8700g" Java="1.0">
<files>
net_rim_bb_media_tunebundles_sonicnetworks.cod
net_rim_bb_profiles_tunes_tunebundles_tunes8700g.c od
</files>
</fileset>

Now plug your device in, run application loader all the way through and you should have those old ringtones along with your new ones. (there may be a duplicate or two but, hey, you've freed up so much memory you can afford it, right?)

***Note: You will have to do this each time you upgrade your OS. Simply run this same process on the new OS/java folder created after installing the new OS to the PC. Be sure to delete the vendor.xml again.

Please don't copy and past this post into other forums without my permission. You're welcome to post a link to it, if you like, though. ~Thanks, JC.[/QUOTE]
