I agree. I have a bunch of eReader docs from my Palm Treo days.

And Mobipocket seems to be down.

Hmmm, are you running the latest (I think 6.0 build 054) version? I'm reading a Hymn Before Battle (John Ringo sci-fi, free download from Baen Free Library ) and it is remembering where I am all the time. Make sure you go into Settings -> Application and uncheck/deselect the option "Open Library at Startup", maybe that's what's messing you up.

Once their web stuff comes back online (says down for maintenance), shortcut the website if you just want the reader and not desktop stuff (like if you're a linux/mac nerd ) by going to the OTA site from your device:

All you need do is install the mobipocket 6.0 beta on your PC. Follow the instructions and link your BB to your pc via the USB cable, and it will install it automatically.

As far as formats, ANY format is possible as long as you do a bit of converting first. I've been using a program called DocReader for years on my palm that takes any .txt file and coverts it into a mobipocket-readable .pdb file. Therefore, you can take an .html, .pdf, .doc or any other file, select all the text and save it onto your notepad as a .txt file. Once that's done, start up DocReader and convert to .pdb, then drag that into your mobipocket window...hit send, and voila...instant literary goodness through your USB cable. You can find DocReader here:

By the way, if you don't want to wait for mobipocket to come back online, just google "mobipocket 6.0 beta"...on the first page of your results you should be able to d/l a copy that's not through their servers..

Just to add that there's no other sites that I can find to download the software. Mobipocket appears to be it. But if there is one, someone please provide the link

Cheers

I have the Mobipocket beta version. I installed it before the site went down (it's been a week and I am giving up on them!).

I went to ebooks.com and bought a book in Mobipocket format. Now I can't download it to my BB Curve. I go into the browser and hit download but nothing happens. I can't try it from Mobipocket because it says the internet connection is down (I changed my ebook store from Mobipcoket to ebooks). I even tried to download it to my PC and then transfer it, but no luck.

Any ideas?
Kathy

Unfortunately most of the 3rd party sites that use mobipocket redirect you back to thier server, which is still down. This kind of sucks cause I have purchased books that I got OTA and arent on my Mac that I cant download since you cant access accounts.

Has anyone heard anything about when/if they are coming back? There are no other readers for BB other than ones you have to convert from text. Ive been searching everywhere, but nothing says if there are done or not.

They absolutely suck. Clueless coders who don't have any idea how to port to multiple platforms or even get the links on their own site right!

Laughable.

Did you make sure to download the "beta" version (6.0.0.54 right now I think) from m.mobipocket.com? It specifically says "with card support" on the download page and has worked fine on my 8100 and 8320 (of course I like it better on the 8320, wider easier to read screen more like a book).

Send this URL to your BB device:
http://www.mobipocket.com/dev/beta/download/mobile4.2.0/mobireader.jad

...and install when prompted.

Works like a charm and I have had no issues. It's not that bad, I just wish I could transfer/convert my e-reader books.

Unfortunately, the short answer is "no."

...they have a free desktop app which supposedly can do this, but I've never tried it (being a linux guy) myself. I just download books already in PRC format, there are a bajillion free ones out there.

Creator software:

Yeah, I know about the free ones, and I've taken advantage of that. My somewhat unrealistic complaint is more about the ones I've purchased from Ereader. I didn't really expect that I could convert them, I just wish I could.

It would be so nice if Ereader would come out with a version for the Blackberry.
