Default If the keyboard on the 8800 feels like the Pearl's - FORGET IT

Please Login to Remove!

I had to hit a TMo store recently to swap out my old (as in Omnipoint era) SIM card b/c it was starting to give my 8700 fits. Anyway, while there I played with the Pearl on display and was shocked at how awful - mushy, non-tactile response - the keyboard was.

I asked the counter dude if they were all like that so he handed me his to play with. Exactly the same. As was the other counter dude's. YIKES.

If the 8800 keyboard feels like the Pearl's, NO WAY I'll ever get it over my 8700.

BG or anyone who's held one - any comment?

I took the 8700 over the 8100 the keyboard can't take the abuse. Mor over the 8700 is more rugged I work in a constuction yard. So I need funtionality and durablity the perl dose not passthe second reqirement also if you type real fast shure type slows you down compared to a full qwerty I have seen pics of it on othersites It looks like it as the same style of keyboard as the 8700 It suposedly has the theck enhancments that the perl has MPR player upgrdable memory up to 2gigs

Well, you're certainly not choosing the 8700 keyboard for its fast access to punctuation...

I personally prefer the 8100's feel for the keyboard, although some key combinations are quite tedious. But no, the 8800's keyboard will be similar to the 8700 in size and feel. If you ever get a chance, compare a 7100's keyboard to the feel of the 7105 and 8100 and you'll notice that the smooth, contoured feel of the latter two's keyboard is a much appreciated modification.

i like the pearls buttons. they are sort of 'mushy' because that allows you to biff a little and still hit the right key. if your finger partly hits another key it wont click. you cant beat the size of the pearl, it makes the phone what it is. i love how i just slide it in my jean pockets and forget its there.

There was a complaint at another website about the keyboard on the 8100. He showed that the keys is glued on to the board.

To me, that's no big deal since most stuff are glued together anyway.
