I have a new car charger for my BB 8800 I got a few days before I changed it for a BB 9700. Will that car charger work on the 9700?

No. The charging specs should be the same, but the connector is different. The 8800 used the mini-USB and the 9700 uses the micro-USB connector. There is andAPPter for that.

Yes after my 8830 and 8330 and wife's 8130, I could not use those plugs for the newer devices. For me, it was cheaper to get a new plug.

Yup, those motorola adaptors work great. I splurged and bought like 10 of them. Works for power and data.
