Default AIM/MSN Clients..

So which do you guys think will be next? Are AIM (aol) and MSN (Microsoft) even working on official BB apps?

Why would they... I think the most people would not use them unless they were only wanting one. If I have 3 or 4 accounts with different IM providers (don't get me started on why I have to manage so many.. ) then I want one IM client... Now granted on the BB I have two. You lose some functionality like video or sounds but this is what works best for me..

PC = Trillian (covers ICQ, MSN, YAHOO) can do AIM as well
BB = BBMessenger and Verichat (covers MSN and YAHOO) and others

I believe they would to corner the 3 million plus bb market. Also, considering yahoo and google have OFFICIAL clients now, its only a safe bet that msn and aim will follow, with RIM combining all of them in one app later down the road.

I think AOL will follow up next, imo. I don't see why Microsoft would exactly want to sponsor the swiftness of having an IM client for a competing product. But who knows. Both have agreements signed with RIM for the IM clients, though.

okay, looks like there will be an AOL/AIM client and an ICQ client made available at some point. both have IT Policy options on BES 4.1. MSN is not listed as a public IM client policy option. barring hotfixes that add in the policy option (usually hotfixes don't update the database, i don't believe), i'd say that an MSN client won't be available within the next 3 months (roughly a new service pack, which does update the database, comes out once a quarter or so)... leaves room open for an AOL/AIM and ICQ client within that time period tho.

Looks great! We should be upgrading soon. With 1500 bb users and counting, it looks like 4.1 will help is greatly.

I hate to say it but so do I. Ramble has been nothing but good to me and I appreciate the efforts put into it but I need to be able to be notified when i have a new message, Ramble doesn't do that.

I agree.... can't wait for a AIM / MSN RIM client. There is already a SIP LiveComm corp server client, probably not much work to get that to work for MSN. Politics.

And AOL, WTF? Weren't they the first to announce with RIM? Politics again. There are so many reasons why the GTalk and Yahoo clients kick the hell out of every other third party product out there..... Come on RIM.

Ok this is the first I have heard anyone talk about SIP IM. Is there a way to get a corporate SIP (running on Microsoft Office Communicator/MSN) to work on my BlackBerry???

It is weird that this had been mentioned because I had been sayingthe same thing to some other BB users.

Yeah. RIM has a tie in to LiveComm (aka. Microsoft Office Communicator) for the 4.1 BES. You need to talk to your BES admin and make sure he/she has the BES setup to access your corp. MS LiveComm server and you need to get the app for you BlackBerry from him/her or have it pushed out.
