My 9000 is 2 years old. Still works fine, but it's starting to show it's age. ATT will give me just about any phone for free if I re-up, so money isn't an issue. I am considering getting the 9700, another 9000, or waiting for something new from RIM (qwerty flip? Slider?). Having a spare 9000 has a nice practical ring to it, no pun intended, but the thing is a bit dated (speed, memory...). Any thoughts?

If the price is the same, I would always take the 9700.

You may want to look at the model comparison on blackberry.com as well. 9700 have trackpad vs trackball; higher res camera; better battery life according to specs.

Rumors circulating today say that the 9700 doesn't have enough memory for OS 6.x. My recommendation would be to wait - especially if you have a working phone and a good backup. You are set for now... and wait to see what RIM does to their GSM line of devices before buying anything, at least in the short term.

Money isn't the issue as the OP says, so get a 9700. Any report you read says 9700 has improved everything over the 9000 except perhaps the keyboard. You can upgrade right now, why wait for something that might not appear for months -- and even then not be what you want. The way technology moves nowadays, you could always be waiting for "that next big improvement".

With AT&T you only get one upgrade every 21 months... so why waste it on something that is like what you already have - especially if what you already have is working fine and you have a back up device... what's the harm in waiting a few months to see what comes along... the new iPhone, an Android device or a new, improved BlackBerry complete with OS 6 and who knows what else? I have an upgrade currently available, and I am waiting to see what happens between now and the end of the year...

fonejunkie's suggestion is a good one. new phones are out in a few monts for the holiday season and you may find something you want more. It may even be with a different carrier.
