Default WiFI BES activation and BIS for email

Please Login to Remove!

I want to save a little money by not having to pay an extra $20/mo for the BES plans from my carrier, but since I use Sametime, the Lotus Journal and calendaring extensively, BIS-only is not an option.

What I've been thinking about are these points:

1. You can do an Enterprise Activation for WiFi access without a BES data plan. The biggest problem with this is that emails that are sent to my device when I'm not on WiFi are lost.
2. I also know I can get BIS to pull my corporate email.

So... would it be possible to do the BES functions while on WiFi (Sametime, journal, calendar sync), and then rely on BIS to top up my Inbox with those messages that don't make it to my device when I'm not on WiFi?

Anybody tried this idea yet?

I don't see why not. The only thing is that you would have 2 separate email boxes and you would use up 2 of the 10 email spots on your blackberry.

I don't have so many email addresses that using 2 separate boxes would be a problem.

However, I had thought that using the unified box would allow me to see all messages, which would work, but I'll also see lots of duplicates for those messages that came into both boxes.

In addition, they'll take up twice the storage, which is a problem since my memory is small and my Inbox is large.

I would recommend setting your device to only pull the last few days of email rather than pulling your whole mailbox.

May not work. I know with Sprint if you don't have a BES plan you don't get the proper service books to support BES - only BIS.

Well, Going from BIS to BES i know you have more options and i believe you can have more email accounts on the device. Did setting the device to only pull the last few days of email work?
