Ubuntu Lovers / Users

Hello all Ubuntu lovers and users....
I was bored today (day off) and figured i'd finally get around to trying Linux Mint...
As many of you probably know, Linux Mint is based on Ubuntu, with a twist...
It's a very nice distro.... Ubuntu under the hood and many, many enhancements on top... Uses a openSuse type gnome menu and has far better, and easier to use package management...
Package manager is based on the Linspire OS with one click install from online repositories....
I am back to Fedora 8 now but if you are an Ubuntu lover / user, you might seriously consider giving Linux Mint a shot!!!

I might just do so. I'm growing weary of Ubuntu Gutsy. I just upgraded from Feisty and video is a nightmare. I installed my video but with 3d acceleration enabled, it keeps rejecting my latest Nvidia driver. Never had that issue with any of the previous Ubuntu's.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 8320: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)
Give it a shot.. I think you will be pleased.. I can see it overtaking Ubuntu as it gains popularity..
I'd use it in place of Ubuntu without a 2nd thought!

And???? have you given Mint a shot??? I actually took my own advice to you and changed over yesterday... I will give it a week before I decide on what distro to stick with for more than 30 days....
So far I am loving Mint and have no desire to go back to openSuse or Ubuntu... It;s now between Mint and F8 and at this point I am leaning toward Mint because it renders my fonts better and the mouse pad is not so touchy...

Heretic. Burn the witch!
Or maybe we should call you Arbiter (from Halo2 when he's stripped of armour and cast out in the beginning) and make you fight your way back to Fedora.

Don't get me wrong rivvie, I really like Fedora... It;s either my new # 1 or # 2... It's an awesome distro no doubt... Honestly, I think I will get back to it... I have given up on openSuse (my 1st love) (Microsoft deal with the devil and yaSt) and Mint is way better than Ubuntu....
From here on out it's Mint or Fedora... I will prolly find my way back to Fedora as Mint is to newb'ish (ease of use) for me as I like the command line and YUM is not as bad as some make it out to ne,,,,... (not to slam mint, as it's an AWESOME distro) I just think it's more geared towards new users and windows converts with it's ease of use...

Mint E17 Alpha will be out tomorrow.... Looking forward to giving it a spin!!!

I installed it this morning on virtualbox before I headed off to work. It looks just like Ubuntu to me. I'll have to play around with it a little more once I get home.

The install is Ubuntu but once you boot to the main screen it looks night and day different... Same package manager ect... But load up the menu, or pop open Thunderbird and you will start to see the difference...
I have been using Ubuntu since it was 1st released, and I don't think Mint looks anything like Ubuntu... It's got Ubuntu under the hood so many things will resemble it, but the gnome menu is not even close to gnome and once you start to play with the apps you will see the difference....
I put E17 on it recently and it's pretty sweet,,,, ALL the Mint perks work like a champ even on E17...

Ok, I tried it out and I like what I see. It's definitely snappier than Gutsy. I have a nice theme and fonts loaded on Gutsy, so there's not much difference as far as the looks are concerned. The feel is much better on Mint though....definitely.

Glad you like it!
I sent a donation to the developer ( I usually do... I sent Mint $50 and E17 $50)...

Now if i'm not mistaken.. Mint is even more out-of-the-box ready than Ubuntu, in the respect that it has mp3 and dvd capabilities?

I'll have to do that as well because Ubuntu is and now Mint are great distros. I tried Fedora before, but I just wasn't moved.

I have been using Ubuntu of one flavor or another since 4.06. I am currently running OpenGEU (previously known as GEUBUNTU) which is based on Gutsy. It uses a mixture of Gnome and E17. It is definitely much snappier than any Linux distro I've tried so far.

One of the best, if not the best feature of Ubuntu is the community.
