There is free way for making ebooks for BB and it's working superb

Maybe you don't need steps 2 and 3 and you could send jar and jad to BB straight throught mail (I'm Living in the country without email support for BB ).


You need (steps with detailed description):
1. TequilaCat BookReader 1.6.10 (beta) + Shell 1.8.5 - for making ebooks: jad and jar files from txt files (one txt file for chapter must be < 65kB, than you could create bigger tan 65kB ebooks).

Job to do:
1.1 Download it to Window PC and unpack ZIP.
1.2 Use SHELL application to transform TXT files to jar and jad (remember one TXT file should be less than 65KB)
- Settings: Opions: MIDLET VERSION: GENERIC MIDP20

2. BlackBerry JDE - for converting ebooks (jar, jad) to the COD, and ALX.

Job to do (from BB Support page):
2.1 Download and install on the Windows machine JDE

2.2 Copy the jad and jar files in a folder on the C drive.

2.3 Open the BlackBerry JDE [version] software (Located under Start - Programs - Research In Motion - BlackBerry Java Development Environment [version] - JDE).

2.4 Once the BlackBerry JDE is opened, select File - New Workspace. Change location to the folder created in Step # 1 and specify a name for the new workspace and click ok.

2.5 Once the workspace is loaded and displayed, right-click and select "Create new project in [NameofWorkspace].jdw. Ensure that the location of where the project will be created is in the same folder as Step # 1, and then specify a name of the project. Click Ok.

2.6 Once the project is displayed, right-click and select "Add File to Project". From the "Add Files to [Name of Project] screen, select All Files from the "Files of Type" drop-down list.

2.7 Change to the folder created in Step # 1, and select both the jad & jar files. Select "Open". Both the jad & jar files should appear under the Project name within the tree.

2.8 Right-click on the name of the project and select Properties. Then select the "Application" tab. From the "Project Type" drop down menu, select MIDlet. On the same screen, under the title "Name of main MIDlet class:", enter the main MIDlet class, which is usually the name of the jad/jar file. Click Ok.

2.9 Then, click F5 to build and run the application through the simulator. This will also generate the cod file.

2.10 Right-click on the name of the project and select Generate AXL file

3. BlackBerry Desktop - for loading ebooks on BB device

If you need more detailed instruction give me a sign and I'll try to make a
detailed document with screenshots.

I don't suppose anyone would like to put together a step by step guide for us newbies? Maybe with links to the software and a sample doc to work with? Even after reading this site for a while, I am still hazy on this process. HiRoll3r put together an excellent idiotproof guide to creating .adp ring tones and it sparked a 100 people creating ringtones. This could be just as big.

This is pretty cool, but are current title available in .txt format? Most of the stuff I have been reading on my pocket PC is in Reader, Palm or Mobipoclet format...

Kudos -- I'm glad someone spelled it out!

However, after reading that... If it's such a hassle to read an eBook on this thing, then forget it. I'm waiting for a simple integrated solution.

Oh, guys :( In fact, I was trying to describe only THE WAY of making ebooks one of many of course. Maybe it's not working? Maybe it is not worth an effort? I dont know? Tell us

I posted this instruction manual before on how to make ebooks. I am attatching an example book that includes a .alx and a .cod of the end of a book file which are really simple to create. The reason i dont post the whole book is that blackberryforums wont allow attatchments over 100k. My old instructions are here

I would appreciate it very much if you could post a quick newbie guide on how to make ebooks. I just got a BB 7100T today and downloaded the zip file you posted. It's awesome - esp the bookmarks.

I figured it out. I bought the mbSplitter and realized that I don't have to split the ebook into 64k midlet chunks. I can specify a midlet size bigger than my input text file and mbSplitter splits it accordingly to 1 .jar and 1 .jad file . After that, I follow tomeka's post on coverting the .jar and .jad to .alx and .cod.
