I have a BES (standalone server on Server 03) running 4.1.4.15 in an SBS2003 organization. Today, we will be removing the last user, and want to decommission the BES, as well as the physical server. I find links on how to completely uninstall BES, but these seem to refer to removing for clean reinstall, or to reuse server, etc.

I just want to be sure to remove all traces of BES from the Exchange organization. Don't care about clean uninstall of the software per se, as we will be wiping the server and re-purposing it (VM Ware). So my only concern is if there are any "entrails" left of the RIM software, or of BES within Exchange, and how do I get rid of them?

The only thing that BES "adds" to exchange is hidden folders to the mailboxes of the users. If you deleted the users correctly, the hidden folders get removed at that time. The folders are harmless so even if they don't get removed, nothing will be harmed.

If you really want to be sure, simply turn off the machine and watch for any events in Exchange.

Maybe some will realize they made a mistake and you will setup BES again
