Please Login to Remove!

What are your reasons for not having one.

1. data plan too expensive

2. dont like BB as a phone

3. no service

4. boss said no

I actually didn't want one when I became the BES admin.
But quickly realized I needed one for testing, troubleshooting and walking users thru the screens etc.
Must be very frustrating without one.
I feel for you buddy!

I had to go about a year before I was able to overcome reason #4.

Perhaps the boss got tired of hearing me state what a pain it was to support without having one.

Just use the blackberry simulator if you need to view the screen while walking someone through over the phone. Testing and troubleshooting isn't exactly the same on a simulator but it's better than nothing.

hehe - just keep asking the boss to use theirs because you can't remember the menus. That will get them. I've had one since day 1 - company paid for of course.

Reasons that I DO have a BlackBerry:

1. Did a cost analysis and showed a positive ROI

2. Use a Pearl; small like a phone

3. Got the provider to put in an in-building BDA in at no cost!

4. Gave the boss one and she loved it

5. Getting more and more people addicted daily

I would not even considering being a mobile admin and not have a device to validate / test etc.

So without one I don't see how one could provide proper support.

I don't have one either ...... #4
And yes, it is inconvenient when you want to test and/or troubleshoot.

When a manager leaves, I' ll assign it to my own email until the new guy/girl shows up.
If I am lucky that means I have it for a week

Can't imagine the BES admin without one to use at a minimum as a test device and troubleshooting device

Reason #4. Only have three users at present. Using a simulator as a means of talking them thorugh menus if needed. It as to be said that so far there have been very few issues.

When we started getting BBs in ~5 years ago I refused to work on them unless I had one. My rational is how can I assist someone if I don't have a BB as well. My argument worked and as users upgrade their BBs I keep getting the newer BBs as well. I don't think I could support ~1500 users without one, especially since we have some that use the BT smart card reader (smart cards and BBs is enough to drive you mad).

I supported Blackberry devices for about 3 years (we had about 300+ users on the BES) without ever using one. At my new job, when they decided to switch from Notifylink to BES, getting my own device for testing/troubleshooting/plain old knowing how the darn thing worked was the first thing I said that had to happen!! heh heh

Looks like a slick product.
Can you remote in to a server and on that server launch another RDP session in a window?

Been using a BB for over 8 years... Take away all the BES servers and the other 5200 BBs (I just got another large OC in our company asigned to me) and I would still have to have one.
