Default Default to Custom IT policy

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

I am having issues changing any BES user from the Default IT policy to a custom IT policy.

I can create new polices with no issues and can assign the polices to groups or users, however whenever I then manage users it always states they are assigned the Default IT Policy and the new policy never gets pushed to the device.
I have tried manually re-sending the IT policy to the device, restarting all the BES services and restarting the server itself all to no avail.

Can anyone help please

Thanks in advance

Open a user, go to the polices tab. If you're assigning by group (ie the policy is assigned in the group), then you should see that Policy and Assigned To: Group Assigned. Then underneath that, the Resolved Policy Name.

Two rookie mistakes I made: #1 Thinking that the policy would be pushed out immediately, #2 Not actually saving the changes on the web page after each change.

thanks for the quick reply

the policy states "group assigned" and shows the correct policy but the resolved policy name still states the default policy.

I have moved the policy order preference too but this didnt help either.

i have also saved all the changes several times just to be sure.

Any more suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The BAS itself does take time to refresh itself. It's not an immediate reflection. I don't think that is your issue here, but I wanted to throw that out as an FYI.

Can you confirm your IT policy distribution settings? You will find it under Devices > Deployment Jobs > Specify IT policy distribution settings. The default is every day, all day, but I'm wondering if you or someone else has changed that.

Also Specify job schedule settings is there too. Depending on your environment size, you can tinker with this. I believe the default is set to 15 minutes. I set mine at 1 minute, but I now have a much smaller environment.

Under the component view->BAS, what does it say for "Method to reconcile multiple IT policies:" ?

All Policy distribution settings are set at default.

Method to reconcile multiple IT polices is set to "Apply one policy - Ranking" is this correct?

(my poilcy is at the top of the list)

thanks in advance

That's the problem. It looks like you have assigned your Custom Policy to the group (which the user is member of), but you also have assigned the Default Policy to the user.

Make sure that the policy you assign to the user is the blank entry on the drop-down list and not "Default".

If all that doesn't help, try to start very simple: Remove the user from the group and assign the Custom Policy directly to the user.

FYI, I started to have the same issue but it just started to happen 3 days ago it seems. I think the problem is the BAS itself. We are running 2 BAS's and one of them is the singleton. I am going to shut them down and then bring them up 1 at a time. I have had to do this before that that usually fixes the issue.
