Default Help - rollback during patch upgrade has removed windows services!

Please Login to Remove!

Help- i was applying BES v4.1.6 mr5 patches, and have hit a problem.

During the install, i was asked to locate "Blackberry Enterprise Server.msi" on my install media. My server is in a datacenter, so there is just no way i could provide it, so i cancelled, and allow the patch to rollback.

Disaster- All my Blackberry Windows Servicses have been removed with the exception of:

Blackberry MDS Internet Service
Blackberry Synchroniaztion Service.

How can i get around this - I'm not even sure where the original install media is!?

Yeah the services are removed then re-installed. When things go wrong with an MR install this happens and a re-install fixes it.

Ok so you need to provide the installer with access to the files, IIRC the media itself is not required just the file(s). If you can get them to the server you can continue. If you don't have the files I think you need to call RIM.

Thanks- i had sort of guessed this, but didn't want to make things worse....

I've inherited this BES install, so i'm unsure where to find the media. Looking around, there is the implication that i need to provide the right version as originally installed- is there any way to determine this.

I'm really suprised that a 'rollback' leaves a broken install. Shocked, even.

Well if you were applying MR 5 onto an existing 4.1.6, you had 4.1 SP6 at that point. So you need the 4.1 SP6 installer MSI.

BTW if my memory is correct and it's just the SP6 msi it wants, you can download that from RIM.

Yes- that's right.

I managed to fix the damage done by downloading SP6, and extracting all the contents of the .exe out to a folder on my server, then point the rollup at the blackberry enterprise server.msi.

This accepted this msi, and the patch was successful.

Still very unhappy that the rollback is so poorly configured that you're left with an non-functioning BES server.

I have many times tried to install patches/SP/MR/etc and have it ask for original media and it was not documented. Sucks yes, but always keep a copy of your install files.
