I used to have a razor. If it had 1 bar or even no bars I could usually make a call and it wouldn't cut out. My BB can have 2 bars or even three and still not be able to make a call or if I am on a call it cuts out. In the same area where the razor struggled and had no bars, the BB will report 2-3 bars, but still not be able to make or hold a call. Has anyone else noticed this?
I have not had this problem at all. What OS version are you running on youe device? Options > about will tell you. I can make calls/receive them no problem with 1 bar nearly all the time, and sometimes with no bars.
Hold alt-nmll and it will show you the acutal signal if i am below 96 dbs i can usually make calls. that gives you a better idea of the signal you are getting.
Same issue on my 8310; better signal strength and on all 6 OS's Ive had installed though there was a difference in how many bars were reported between .2 and .5. In fact I cant make a clear phone call at all even when Ive reached the best signal possible (~-75) and data rates are great. I just assumed it was a BB thing. Ive heard they are notorious for poor call quality.
I must have good service here with AT&T. Hardly ever have a dropped call. i have a best of 48 db on the secondfloor of a building in tampa normally its around 65 to 80 outside and in my house its any where from 88 to 110 but i live in a condo where i am surounded by other units so the only way service gets in is through the back sliding glass door. Cant complain. My fiances samsung A737 sucks service wise compared to the blackberry.
my signal is always at -80. it never seems to change and never have problems receiving or getting calls. as a matter of fact, i think since using the pearl and now the curve that it has been one of the best most consistent phones i've had when it comes to call quality and signal.
I almost never get a dropped call, except when I am at work. I have -80 to -96 everywhere and never drop a call. But at work it goes between -80 and -110 all while sitting in the same place. sometimes it drops calls, sometimes I can talk but it cuts out and sometimes it can't even send a text message or won't ring when a call comes through. US Cellular has their equipment on the exact same tower and everyone with their service gets much more consistent signal.
The problem isn't in my house it is at work. And other people at work with Verizon have some reception issues, but they are more consistent than mine. The signal will be -80, then -110, then -80 again and it is just all over the place.
I've noticed the meter goes all over the place for me too. I'm pretty sure it's a CDMA radio thing. Of course, all meters are at best a decent guess as to what the actual information is: battery strength, signal strength, etc.
I've had the meter drop to no bars while I was on the phone and not disconnected. Sometimes in my apartment, I'm in EVDO mode and others i'm simply at 1X. I don't know why, but another thing I blame is that I am near a major roadway so whatever site my phone is being covered by is also covering massive traffic all the time, and I'm sure that can change my call/data speeds.
