Default Blackberry Hard Reset Question (Curve GPS)

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Blackberry and when I setup my corporate email on it they push a security profile that prevents installing any software (ie. the Opera Mini browser). I need the Opera browser since the default Blackberry web browser doesn't work on approx. 50% of the web sites I need access to.
So my last Blackberry I installed Opera Mini before configuring my corporate email and getting the profile pushed and all was well.

However, yesterday I got a replacement Blackberry and was talking on the phone while setting it up and not paying attention. I went ahead and configured my email prior to installing Opera. Now its locked (via profile) and I can't install Opera.

So my question is: How do I do a hard reset on the device so that I can re-set-it-up and install Opera before my corporate security profile is pushed via email setup?

Ask your BES admins for help.
I'm sure they'd be interested in knowing what you're trying to do.

They are not helpful and dont even respond.

P.S. It's MY device, not company owned so why they lock it is beyond me.

Once it's on their BES, it becomes their device.
No way around that other than not activating it on their BES.

I've got to think there is some way to hard reset these devices to the state that they are when you first recieve them from AT&T.

Unfortunately you will have to wipe your device. Then load Opera. Then ask to be set back up on the BES. You will still have to contact your BES admin to get a password to redo Enterprise Activation.

There is, but it won't solve your "problem".
Once you activate on BES again (which you'll need to contact your BES admins for) the IT policy will be placed on your device and the restrictions will be employed.
BES admins can see everything on your device. They'll know you have Opera Mini.

If they want to block it's use, that's very simple for them to do. Even if you do get it on your device, you probably won't be able to use it anyway... if your BES admins don't want you to.

Your best bet is to stop trying to circumvent your company policies. It's a good way for you to end up on the unemployment line. Is Opera Mini really worth that?

I actually had Opera Mini on my last device. However, since the trackball quit working I had to have the device replaced and ended up with a warranty replacement device. While I hear what you are saying and understand your point, I had Opera Mini loaded on my prior 8310 Curve for about 8 months and they never said anything to me. Interestingly, the main reason why I need it is because I like to demo our main customer facing web application (I'm in sales) to customers in the field and coincidentally, it doesn't work or display with the Blackberry browser.

I can get a new enterprise activation password auto generated for me from an Intranet site. So, is there any way to wipe the device clean (removing the BES profile), install Opera (again), and then re-setup the device using my new enterprise activation password?

There is, but I have to take the high road on this one and I'm not going to help you with it.
Maybe someone else will.

Good luck.

Whatever. This person is likely an adult. If he wants to do this and risk his job then that is his decision to make, not Penguin's. Penguin is just withhold information that isn't illegal and won't be used for anything illegal.

I will go by your logic, Penguin is an adult and it is his decision to make to not share such information. To get back on topic, this has been discussed on the forums before, if the OP wants to know how to do this, the information is available.

Who said anything about legality!?

In this particular case, the OP was asking for advice which conflicts with my personal principles, as a BES admin.

I stand by my original reply. The OP should contact their own BES admin for assistance in this matter. Let that administrator decide the proper course of action. Since the OP is an adult, as you indicate, then this would be the adult thing to do.

It's all good, I found a nifty little thread entitled:

"Remove IT Policy"

I would post the link but I sure would hate to actually help somebody when instead I could keep the info "close to the vest" and make them go searching for it.

If you read the guide that you have found you should have come across this:

If you're still connected to a Company BES, and simply want to install the latest and greatest Third Party Application I wouldn't recommend this approach. Go talk to your administrators and ask them to grant you the appropriate rights. There are two problems in using this guide to bypass your Company's Security Policy. Firstly, whenever you reconnect to the Company Server, your security settings will revert back to how they were. Secondly, and (perhaps) more importantly, you run the risk of getting fired.

It would have been better not to say anything, then to purport to know the answer to his question then refuse to give out the info based on moral grounds.

Quit beating a dead horse. The OP found what he/she is looking for.

Yeah, I guess I see your point and of course you definitely have the right divulge or not any information you have. I guess I just didn't agree with your reasons. My roommate is an IT guy for a company and also runs their Goodlink server. And he has the attitude that he knows all and everyone is an idiot. He blocks websites and then he goes to them. He also likes guns, so he lets firearms websites through, but blocks just about everything else. Also, I thought this was the OP's own personal phone so I think he should be able to reset it and get it off the BES if he wants to.
