It downloaded and installed just fine on the 8800.

You may want to send that address to yourself in an SMS or something, so you can copy paste it into your browser.

Earlier in the post you had images of Blackberry Maps. That was what I was inquiring about. The Blackberry Maps application on your 8800, not the google maps app.

Were you able to get your GPS features to work on that version of BBerry Maps that you downloaded to your 8800 unit?

Yes

Are you having trouble with GPS functioning in BB Maps? The version is the old one, same as Pearl, but it does function with the built-in GPS.

So then this begs another question, does the BB Maps app that works with the GPS functionality work internationally? I bet not...major bummer.

Unfortunately, BB Maps currently does not support Australia.

However, the one that we're talking about is 1.0.70 - which is an older version.

8800 will more than likely have a newer and better version to support more functionalities based on the GPS. Still, not sure about Australia

I'm sorry for so many questions...but what application is used by the $10/Mo subscription service? Is it any good? I wouldn't mind paying for it if it is decent.

Does anyone know what version of Google Maps has the GPS capability? I have Google Maps for Pocket PC on my HP HW6945 and that works just great with GPS.
Good find.

The one problem is that the keymapping is for the 8100, so the qwerty shortcuts for any function don't work reliably. At least we know that a solution is not going to be tough to implement.

Default GPS link does not work

the link google.com/gmm/apps/v1.4....00_v4_0_L1.jadreturns a 404 error. Is it still there?

This version of Google Maps for the 8700 series works better. It supports the right keypad commands *and* it supports scrolling all directions with the trackball!

http://www.google.com/gmm/apps/v1.4....00_v4_0_L1.jad

Note that the BB software concatenates the line, so right click on the link and select "copy shortcut" if you're copying into an e-mail to yourself.

FYI, no GPS support, obviously.

So within the GPS settings in Settings>Options>Advanced Settings>GPS
I try to search for satellites and get nothing. Am I doing something wrong? I doubt it's my location but who knows =/

If you're outdoors, you should get something.

The GPS feature rocks very very hard. I turned it on this morning while driving to work.....yeah I know....and it was dead on. Even the MPH was right on the money!!!

Hmmm I removed my Bluetooth Headset and now there is nothing within GPS Settings. It looks exactly as Boygenius' pic did

I'm wondering if I have a faulty device. I'm going to call the store.

Are you inside a building or something?

Mine never populated throught the GPS app in settings either...it does now. The only way I was able to get a reading the first time was through the blackberry maps. You have that installed?

I didn't see the issue that is happening. If you remove a BT device the GPS doesn't work? There are surely a number of issues going on out of the box.
