Default Out of memory?! How?

Please Login to Remove!

I had someone update my Berry and since then I've been out of memory. I don't have many apps, and have less than I did with my Curve, yet my memory is in red all the time. The apps I have aren't memory hoggers, with BBM being the largest.

I'm thinking that it might be my pictures. They are in "picture library" and I'm thinking that this is what's eating up my memory, but when I look at them, they're stored on the card, not the device. There are 215 of them, so that would be a good amount of space. And, I can't get to them through the camera - I have to go through media and into picture library.

So, is that the issue? And if it is, how do I move/remove them?

Did you load OS 6? That could be the problem.

How many apps do you have?

Have you performed a battery pull to see what that does?

OS 6 does hog a lot of memory on a 9700. In addition to DubDub's suggestions, try clearing your browsing history, and any old e-mails that you don't need to save on your BlackBerry.

Thanks for the help thus far

I have 12 apps, most of which are less than 1MB

I do have OS 6 with whatever upgrade I just did on it - tell me where and I'll give you the version. This upgrade seemed to give me more memory, but I still don't think I should be hovering near 30MB, which is what I'm at now.

I've pulled the battery for many things and it's never seemed to solve the issue.

Sounds like an OS6 update alright. Follow the above suggestions. The pictures you have aren't an issue. It's that the new OS is much larger than what you may have previously had. Any unnecessary apps would be good to delete, and watch the ones that are loaded on start-up even if you don't use them. You'll be able to see what's loading up at the start from the main screen by pushing and holding down the menu button (BB logo on it).

The 9700 was designed for OS 5, not 6. Runs slower and requires more memory.

slim down os 6 and reload it. i have 22 apps on my 9700, running os6 and i have 50MB free on bootup, and with normal use, about 30 free at any given time.

that being said, *everything* not on your SD card will hit against your memory limit.
This includes attachment downloads and all manner of things that need to be recorded to disk.
the JVM powering your phone will also page out memory to the ROM, which will really hit your free space hard.
