Looks like very simple AIM program for blackberry. no lag to log on/off and seems to reply IMs slightly faster than Verichat and Webmessenger.

would like to add the alert notification (vibration, sound, etc)

Keep up the good work!

It has notification settings you need to turn on. According to the PDF manual at their site, the settings are in the regular Blackberry settings section and not in the program itself. It has the same normal/holster settings that VeriChat has.

Has anyone had any problems or found any bugs with this program??

My VeriChat trial ran out a couple of weeks ago and I've been trying to decide what to do. Since I only use AIM and not any of the other messaging systems, this would be idea if it works well. Is it as reliable as VeriChat? I do not want to have to deal with pulling the battery, i.e. device lockups. I want a finished product. Does this qualify?

Ramble is a software demonstration, and as such, should not be considered a finished product. It has been through a good deal of development and testing, though, so you should consider trying it out.

Development is ongoing, so any feedback is welcome.

Why not take a test drive and let us know how the battery life is for this
new IM program?

Do you mean how will it effect battery life, or how can you reduce the effect on battery life?

Either way, unlike other IM clients, Ramble IM connects directly to AOL (through MDS) to the BlackBerry network. In addition to greater security, this means it is responsible for handling all radio traffic necessary to keep the connection alive. This can have an impact on battery life since using the radio means using battery.

Try sending an email to [email address] with comments and questions. There might be a network setting that can be adjusted to route the traffic using Nextel's internet gateway rather than the MDS.

In other words, you need BES with MDS enabled to run this Application

You only need to be allowed to send TCP/IP traffic. Check out the Big BlackBerry FAQ for tips on how to enable this type of service:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/showthread.php?t=2185

Typically, BES/MDS will do the trick, but there may be ways around it.

according to that thread, there is nothing special for nextel users to have TCP/IP traffic... but it still is not working... is there a special service book needed in order to run this software?
