Hi
Had a 9000 since Xmas and yesterday it seemed to lock up so I took out the battery and knew it was low on charge so charged it for a few hours, red light came on briefly as I plugged it in.
When I tried to restart it nothing happened totally dead no lights.
Took the battery out and back in no change then tried to charge it again no red light this time and again nothing after a few hours charge.
Then left the battery out overnight and tried it no change. Plugged the phone in to the PC through the usb lead no sign of life and the PC cant find a phone.
How can I check the battery has charge and the charger is working and is there anything else to try ?
Bob
Have you let the battery run below 20% more than a few times? Sounds like a bad battery or the device got wet.
Have you tried different chargers and different locations/outlets? If on a PC, make sure Desktop Manager is installed so you have the correct drivers. Don't plug into a PC via a HUB.
How do I run the battery down and know its below 20% ?
Dont have a different charger is there a way to test this one ?
I have desk top manager installed on the pc and its direct to a usb port but nothing.

I think you may have misunderstood what Dubdub was asking. Draining LI-ion batteries below 20% on a regular basis can cause early failure.
Ok yes I did misunderstand I though he was suggesting to let it run down.
Yes the phone will have been at low batt a few times since it was new at Xmas.
Is there a way to test the battery ?
Wouldn't a light still come on the phone even if the battery was a dud ?
Not necessarily. I would suggest trying a different battery. Maybe take it to a Vodafone shop and see if they would let you try a battery to see if it fixes your issue, then you could purchase a new battery.

take the battery out then connect the charger without putting the battery in, as soon as you see the red light go on put the battery in and waite a min or 2 and that should do the job
Got a new battery for it and put it in and the red light came on and a white screen with blackberry then showing something loading then the red light was flashing, phone didnt start and after a while the red light went to constant and then went off, tried it on a car charger too that I bought and red light came on constant for a while then went off now its just like it was before totally dead with no lights and nothing happens when you take out and replace the new battery or plug in the charger.
Any advice on what this might be ? Could it be the mains charger faulty and has ruined or drained both batteries ? It seems like the new batter had life in it and the phone started to work as soon as I put it in but now is dead.

Try a different charger and location. If using your PC, make sure you plug directly into the PC, not via a HUB and that Desktop Manager is installed on the PC and that you are using a power cable and not a data only cable.
When I plug it in to usb on the pc with desktop manager running it says it cant see a device connected, when first plugged in the red light on the phone comes on for maybe 30 seconds and then nothing. I am using the usb cable that came with the phone how do I know if its power or data only ?
Charging via pc USB ports can be problematic, even with a direct connection. There may not be enough power coming through the port, and some pc's shut off power to the USB ports when the computer goes into hibernation or sleep mode.
