I feel so stupid, but I dropped my phone in a plastic cup of water over the weekend. I took it all apart and dried everything out, put it back together, but it wont turn on. Anyway, my question is, Is there anyway for the techs a t-mobile to figure out that it was submerged in water. I'm trying to get it replaced, and I'm just telling them that it stopped working. Will they know that I'm lying to them? It still looks brand new, and there are no residual marks that I can see inside or out from dropping it in the water. Thanks in advance.

they very may well be able to know they will pull it apart and more than you did if there is any sign of water you can be arrested for fraud.. ok just joking on the frad part but they may not be happy with you

this JUST happened to me, went on vacation, got off the plane walked onto the beach phone rang as i pulled it out to answer fumbled and it ended up in the clear hawaiian waters of waikiki, i took battery out and dried as much as i could the whole week, when i turn on, i have to press the buttons hard, but it basically works. i would like to take it apart tho. what tool did you use to remove cover?

If it has BT, then get yourself a BT headset. A Headset might save you next time

Most cell phones have little tabs in strategic points on the circuit board that change color permanently when wet. The first thing the techs look for are these tabs so they know whether or not to bother working on the phone. They won't swap you because the manufacturer will not replace a water damaged phone.

Use a torx t6 screwdriver to get inside. Press a along the top of the phone with a blade to release the tabs then open it like a clam shell. I've taken a few hundred apart and just pulling it open has never damaged the case. Then I would rinse it in 90+ percent rubbing alcohol.

I don't think they'll go to the extent of opening your phone, etc. I have had Tmo for over three years and had my T610 and the V300 exchanged without questions. BTW, what BB do you have?

If the company won't fix water damage, don't bother trying to trick them. Just get a new phone (this time without insurance).

They are very good at spotting such damage. As I said, forget about insurance in the future, they charge $5 a month plus a $40 fee and sometimes shipping ($10). If you broke your phone once per year (doubtful) it would cost you $110. Odds are you'll only break it once every 18 months ($160) or every to years ($210). New phones cost less than you'll pay for insurance.

In the past two months, two friends just broke their 7230's. One got another 7230 one on eBay for $100 (in almost new condition) and the other got a 7290 from T-Mobile for $199 (by extending his contract for 1-year). They wanted to charge him $299 but he said, "I guess I can just port my number to Cingular" since he had no contract with them at that point.

Even at $199, T-Mobile isn't losing any money (and they aren't losing a long time customer [known as churn]). Plus, when you really think about it, you'll most likely want to upgrade to a new phone once ever 24 months anyhow.

That is great Dawg but I did not know that Verizon my provider will only sell you the insurance within 15 days or you are sol of luck, I did not try until about day 16 because I was out of town and had forgotten about it, so i am out of luck fortunately mine was replaced because it was within the one year warranty and the defect was a hardware one not something that happened with me. But if i break it am cooked. So i was really tickled pink about the post you responded too with regards to the case, and I went to work right away and fixed it.
