Default Can i use GPS with ATT Int'l Data Plan?

Please Login to Remove!

I have ATT's international unlimited data plan. I do not have any GPS specific plan as far as i know.
Can i use the Telenav GPS Navigator program that i see in my Applications folder? Is this program similar to SatNav programs found in cars?

thanks.

I believe that you have to have a seperate subscription, but they usually come with a free trial to see if you like it. ^.^

thanks. How about Google Maps. Can i just use google maps using my unlimited international data plan and thus not incur any additional charges when i'm abroad? How about if i turn the GPS on when using google maps? Is there any added charge for this?

Google Maps is very good, and unlike TelNav it's free. It uses Data to download the maps so if you have a Data Plan you are all set.

Remember... your international data plan is only valid in specific countries on specific carriers. Roam Zone for Discounted Rate Plans | Wireless from AT&T, formerly Cingular Only these countries and carriers.

Google maps works in a lot of countries, but not all of them. I had no maps at all in Argentina. The latest versions of Google Maps will start the location process using cell towers to get you in the general area. Then it will turn on your GPS to search for a signal. The only charge is for the data you use. If you are in a country supported by the global data connect and on a partner carrier, you will be ok. But that DOESN'T mean the carrier your Blackberry finds when you get off the plane is a partner. So look before you travel and force your BB to a partner carrier.

This is all posted after a $300 roaming bill for data.

There's really no such thing as a GPS plan. What you mean to say is GPS app. You don't pay to use the GPS receiver on your BB (so a free GPS app means you pay nothing except for your BB data plan). You may or may not need to pay for the GPS app depending on which one you decide to use. The at&t rebranded Telenav is just another of many GPS apps out there for the BB. See the GPS forum for a full list of apps.

Google Maps is a great GPS-enabled app but it's not a fully-fledged in-car nav app IMO as it doesn't have voice prompts. YMMV. Many people do rely on it.

Again, there's tons of info already in the GPS forum.
