Default Storm OS update official?

Please Login to Remove!

guys,

did RIM release a software update for the storm that is official release, just not with vzw yet?

I was told this by a vz tech rep and she said the software is probably fine and its just a matter of time until vzw approves it..

anyone know about this update? does it work? is it worth the risk?

.122 was released to only Bell users via desktop manager. To install it, you're going to need to find the loader cache files, unzip them, and copy them into the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\[newest version os]\ folder. that's if you have a windows machine. it's not that difficult, but then again i'm an IT guy. I'm running .122 and i like it so far- primarily because it's doing fine and it's not a hybrid.

Where do you get the .122 files to swap them in?

I have to ask how the heck this update is only 30MB in size!? I was going to recommend afriend give this a shot, but I may help him through it to see if 30MB is really enough for the OS.. Other releases are well over 100MB that are downloaded in the normal fashion.

it's only the loader cache- there's no executable. you're only unzipping the file and copy the folders into the loader directory (as mentioned above). if you delete the vendor.xml file, plug in your bb, and start loader it should upgrade your OS. that's all it took for me.

pearlinSen, are you implying that the loader cache will then pull the upgraded OS from the BB servers?

.122 has been released in full as an official release now by Hutchinson.

For the 9500 Storm.

No, it will pull nothing from the RIM servers, the OS you need will be loaded on your PC once you follow the procedure he outlined.

I personally don't recommend this route, but to each his own.

It does work.

Will this also work for the 9530?

What is the method you suggest (if this is not answered by the above question)?

No, you need a 9530 OS for the 9530.

For your second question, read post #2 above. That describes the method to make the files from the 9500 upgrade usable for the 9530. I'm not walking you through that process. It is clearly explained and I don't recommend it. If you brick your device, you are on your own (although I don't think you will).

I hear you there, JS. I can handle the high-end technical matters, but I have other fish in my frying pan right now, so when I get around to it in a few days, the official release might be around.

Thanks for your input.

I've downloaded the file zip but when I open it I don't get a JAVA & CDMA folder to copy into my last update. I just get plenty of files that all seem to be java files. Do I just copy those into the JAVA folder? What about the CDMA file? Help anyone?

Thanks

you can find everything you need here...

Bell 4.7.0.122 Java and CDMA files - BlackBerry Forums at CrackBerry.com

you can do it, but first find out what the best option is for the device model you use and the carrier you're on....a little poking around in that forum u'll probably find something

personally, i've *sensed* that verizon and other north american carriers using CDMA are looking to make updating their customer's blackberries similar to an apple iphone experience, by only allowing it to be done thru official OTA and DM channels.

i was never a fan for this, and it just struck me (being a gsm oriented guy) that i purchased the wrong phone for my needs (9530)....after i get rid of it, i'll be going the route of the 9500.
