Please Login to Remove!

So.... my friends and i went out... and my friend was taking a pic of all of us on my blackberry and... well... dropped it in her margarita. it wasnt full it was like barely an inch. and she got it out after like a millisecond.

It's dried out... clearly cause if I put my battery in... the red light comes on... but that's all.

CAN i save it? or is it dead beyond dead beyond DEAD?!

The battery should stay out of the BB for at least a week. Put the BB in a bag or bowl of uncooked rice for the week. Let it sit in there and you should be good to go, unless you returned the battery too soon.

Possible, but it can't hurt to try the rice.

The real killer is corrosion. If you get it dried out quickly enough, there's a good chance it'll be okay. But the circuit pathways are pure copper, zinc, etc which means they'll rust very quickly (sometimes within a day) and that'll do the phone in. It's not working right now because it probably still has moisture in there shorting out the circuit pathways. I doubt the output of the battery would be enough to fry it, but I definitely wouldn't plug it in until it's completely dry. Get a can of compressed air and use the whole damn can to blow air through every nook and cranny on the device, and do the rice thing. It's also nice and hot outside in most parts of the country about now, so I'd wrap it in a paper towel and set it on the dashboard of your car tomorrow (crack a window if you happen to be in South Texas or Florida though...)

Leave the battery out of that process, though, because extreme heat is bad for batteries.

just follow the FAQ suggestions which have been posted here thousands of times.

Copper and zinc do not rust (they do oxidize, though). But the moisture and the electrical will zap a device if the moisture is still in the device.

on top of that, you dropped it in a margarita? the sugars in the drink will get gummy on the board and keyboard and not help out any... if you will have problems after the drying period, use isopropyl alcohol to wash the contacts on the keyboard with the device disassembled.

'Rust' being the 'street slang' for corrosion, of course.
