I use Opera Mini constantly and WISH I could set it as my default.

I was just trying to do this today. It would be a great feature.

It is frustrating to click on a link from messages and have it open in the bb browser only to have the page not load because the bb browser doesn't support javascript.

I end up using both, depending on what I am looking at.

But I would default to opera if there was the choice.

i'd love it, BUT it does not really make sense until Opera Mini supports downloads and streams.

I agree with everyone else in that Opera Mobile Browser is great but implementation of downloading and streaming should come before an option to set it as the default browser.

Even though it lacks some of the downloading and steaming functionality of the built-in browser, I'd still like at least the option to set it as the default because I actually don't download or stream all that much.

Would be nice if this was possible. But RIM don't really want people using anything other the default browser, so what to do. :(

I think we all can agree that the Blackberry browser isn't great, so being able to use another browser as the default one may for some be beneficial.

I know this thread started over a year ago, but has no progress been made to change the default browser?

I moved my opera from the download file into a new folder. I then moved that icon to my front page. Now when I click on the icon - it goes directly to the opera browser - sorta like a default browser.

Won't happen. Despite the current explosion of personal Blackberry ownership, RIM's raison d'etre is still the Enterprise user, which is very focused on security. The fact that Opera routes all traffic through their pre-rendering servers in Norway is (technically) a security (and reliability) risk.

What RIM should do is come out with a competing browser for BIS users that allows pre-rendering, and a BES browser solution that allows the BES itself to do the pre-rendering and remain secure.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry Bold 9000 & 8310)

A default browser would be a great option; however I really like how it is implemented in Opera 5b2 - where if you click on plain text links (like an email) you have a menu choice of native browser or opera. Now, if the developers, instead of focusing on making the default option, I would prefer if the same option was available in html links (like html emails) so the user can choose which browser to open every time! Great work so far Opera!! I love Opera 5beta2!!
