I bought the cool Motorola S9 headset for listening to music on my 8300, for music it works great. but switching to a video clip the sound switches automatically to the 8300 speaker. even for the 8300 demo clip.

Ive tried repairing and connecting headset while playing a video clip.

any ideas?

I have noticed the exact same thing. Ive got the Curve and the S9.
When you are playing music you can hit the options button and see a choice to "Activate Headset" and "Activate S9". But when you play a video you only have the choice to "Activate Headset". The headset is just the headset out port on the top left of the phone for wired headphones. So it looks like the curve doesnt support playing the audio from video via bluetooth.

This is kinda a dirty secret if you ask me as they imply that they do support all media playback via a bluetooth headset, and no where will you find it saying they dont support it.

I just got the curve this morning and the first thing I did was hook up my plantronics 590 stereo bluetooth headset and the music plays exactly as described.

HOWEVER, I go to video as others have noticed and the damn thing plays through the ear speaker or the speakerphone NOT the BT Headset!!

All I have to say is: W-T-F!!?? Get it together RIM!

It is most likely a processor issue. It may not be able to smoothly play audio via A2DP while decoding video. This was an issue on some WM phones in the past.

Hopefully future drivers will be improved and this will begin to work.

I found that also If you are playing music through your BT stereo headphone (mine is motorola S9) then switch off the headset, and dont 'close' the media player, then next time you reconnect, the headset does not connect fully , ie it only connects as phone headset, not stereo mode.

the player menu does not have the 'activate stereo headset' option

I have to re-pair to make it work.

all is fine if I close the media player always after playing music.

I guess the point is that 'connecting' the headset while the media player is already open doesnt work (for me).


for all these problems I was next going to look for an after market media player that would play videos and music in stereo!

is it possible??

I would bet money that in future software releases it will be fixed. I have seen a few small issues.

I had previously posted that the cingular branded headset did not work well at all. It's going back....

Wait, so you are saying that the Spider will play stereo output from videos on the Curve? This would seem to indicate it's not a Curve-side issue then.

To all those who are experiencing mono-only playback for videos, this may sound like a dumb question, but.....

Are you sure the video is encoded for stereo sound?

I'm on the same boat too. I have the S9 and I'm mad that I can't play any of my movies or videos.

Any confirmation from joec on whether the Spider can do video and music playback?

If that is the case, I will return my S9 immediately.

Don't know ...I keep procrastinating about going to Radio Shack and seeing if they have one that will work with videos.

Hmm, this is an interesting issue indeed. I also recently purchased the S9 (but with the understanding that video won't play on it - thank you, BlackberryForums.com). I also am under the assumption that it may be a hardware limitation of the processor when decoding video. Still, I would like confirmation on the Radio Shack Spider headset though. The Spider is a lot less $$ than the S9 (but I do prefer the smaller / sleaker shape of the S9 since I plan on working out with it)...

I tried playing 2 different format videos. They both played fine but the sound will only come out of the speakerphone.

No matter what I tried, the spider stereo headset would not play audio from a video. It plays music and ringtones just fine through the headset but no sound from a video.

I was just about to tell you how awesome this heaset is, but this is a bit of a disapointment. I will keep it though, its $10.00 off now, so i got it for 39. instead of 49 at RS.

I'm fairly confident that videos will not stream the audio to any Bluetooth headset. Someone would have found this thread and posted by now that "Hey, I have it working with my xxx XYZ model..." if it were possible.
