Default Interleaved/Bosttom Post on E-mails

Hello,

Just got the Storm (still debating whether I should keep it) and while playing around with it i notice that all email replies are TOFU (top posting). Is there any way to... i'm going to say... "fix" this?

see: (i can't post a link apparently...) google search "I'm Feeling Lucky" for "top-post site:catb.org"

Thanks,
Abhishek

I don't know the answer, but just curious what you're talking about. I know "top-posting" in reference to boards, but how does that apply to email? Email threads always have the newest reply at the top. Is that not what you're talking about?

I think the OP is referring to the ability to have the text of a reply positioned AFTER the corresponding text of the original message, similar to when you quote a post here in a reply. Additionally I think the OP is looking to break up the original text so the each point each point being responded to is followed by the corresponding reply text.

I actually prefer that style too, but find the top-posting format used on Blackberries to be easier to work with on a small-screen device.

UncleMike is correct. I agree with him about how much easier it is on small devices but my geek points are at stake here with my friends. They _will_ mock me for top-posting. And the only way i'd be able to get them to not mock me if i did it would be to like change the RFC1855; which i don't think i can do :P

A possible work-around, for those cases where you just HAVE to reply in an interleaving manner, is to select all the text and copy to the clipboard, then compose a new message to the sender(s), paste the text in, and interleave your comments/reply from there.

You obviously wouldn't want to be doing that all the time, but for those cases where you "have to", that is one way.

lol, your friends mock you for "top posting".

They need a life. And a real smartphone.

Just look them square in the face and say "But I have the Storm. You want your @$$ whipped?" and let it be.

Depends on the email client you're using. That's not always the case.

Who am I to talk? I still don't know how to multi-quote a post.

We're CS majors. the RFC is clearly defined. I don't blame them :(

I'm actually thinking of returning it... I don't really see a reason to keep it. I mean i like it but I think what I like is having internet abilities on a phone (which i've never had before) and i could probably trade this guy in for something cheaper. Or switch to my original plan and return it and wait like a year (i'm patient) for either an Android powered phone on Verizon or my family switching to T-Mobile...

Not to sound nerdy, but an RFC is just that - a Request For Comments. It is not a standard, and in fact each RFC clearly states that it is not a standard.

This RFC also states that you should only quote as much of the original as is necessary to give a context.

The comments are split on whether top posting is proper etiquette. One commenter suggests that top posting a short reply to a short message is proper. I tend to agree. And since this is the type of communication best handled by a mobile device, perhaps top posting is more appropriate than it might first appear.

In any case, if you still want the ability to interleave your replies, then third party software (possibly) or another device will be necessary.

Indeed but i generally take them as a standard because they usually end up being one (like RFC 2460 Internet Protocol, Version 6 (IPv6) (pulled at random))

Meh... i'm still in the other camp that one should always bottom post. By the way I've always wondered... where are the comments?

I feel like i would be shooting myself in the foot though if i were to replace RIM's "Godly" messaging service (it is very nice otherwise... i gotta say)

I'm going to have to examine if this bothers me enough (with some of the other quirks in the storm) to return it and wait for something else...

Thanks for your replies all.
