Default installing 3rd party apps requires downgrade?

Please Login to Remove!

I had a handful of 3rd party apps (e.g. BBToday, Berry 411 Search, etc.) installed on my old Blackberry 7290, but the unit died and was replaced with a new 7290. When I try to use the Application Loader to install these apps on this new unit, it gives me 2 options:

1. Leave the applications on the device unchanged (Recommended)
Note: If I choose this option, I can only press the [Cancel] button at the bottom of the screen because the [Back] and [Next] buttons are greyed out.

2. Replace the device's applications with the older version provided by the BlackBerry Desktop Software.
Note: If I choose this option, I cannot simply add the new 3rd party apps I want to install -- I'm also forced to either Downgrade or Remove the following:
  • BlackBerry 4.0.2 Systest Software
  • BlackBerry Attachment Service
  • BrickBreaker
  • WTLS Security Package
  • SSL/TLS Security Package
  • JavaScript Package
  • Help
  • MemoPad
  • Password Keeper
  • Phone
  • TTY Support
  • Tasks

Why can't I keep the newer device apps and load the 3rd party apps?

Both of my BlackBerries were issued to me from my employer's IT department. I don't know of any policy that prevents me from loading 3rd party apps -- they'd seen the apps on my older BlackBerry and never cared.

BlackBerry 7290
v4.0.2.56 (Platform 1.8.0.143)
BlackBerry Desktop Manager v4.1.1.9

Download and install BlackBerry handheld software v4.1 and you can have the best of both.
