Hi all.

Trying to fix my sons 8520 which had a damaged screen. Anyway, have a new screen which I fitted easily enough, powered up the BB but all I have is a white screen. At first I thought maybe I had bought a crap screen so I reconnected the old one, although cracked would still tell me if the problem was with the new screen.

Anyway, the old screen was completely white as well so I refitted the new and this was still white. When I say white, I mean completely white, no egg timer, no error message no nothing just lots of lovely whiteness which fades after a while and kicks off again at regular intervals. I'm guessing this is the BB rebooting or at least trying to.

What I have done so far...................................(apart from swear a lot)

Have tried a clean install of OS 5.0, no joy

Have completely wiped it with the JL_Cmder utility, no joy

Followed lots of guides of user groups, Youtube etc, no joy

So, apart from putting it in the bin does anyone else have any suggestions?

Edit: Forgot to say, the phones functions still appear to be present because if I press the voice activation button it asks for a command. At least it did before I wiped it!

What happened to the original screen - how was it cracked? Your problem may be more than just a screen issue.

I do not know atm, I will have to ask him. I did take a good look at the main board while I had it apart and can see no signs of other abuse such as moisture. Chances are he dropped it and one of the components has shock damage?

Hope this isn't the case though.

I doubt it's software related. My guess is physical damage or something isn't put back together properly. There are several youtube videos on "8520 disassembly". They might help you figure out what has gone wrong.

I agree. Either it isn't plugged in correctly or there is more damage to the hardware than meets the eye.

Also, I've found out 1st hand that it is real easy to damage ribbon connectors that were not damaged when you started disassembly.
