I have not upgraded my OS since I have had my Storm, but I am thinking of upgrading to .122. Can anyone tell me if they have had issues with their 3rd party apps carrying over to the new OS after upgrade? Do you have to re-install them after the upgrade?

No, you don't need to re-install any third party apps. Practically, you do nothing, because the OS loader program first offers you to back-up your device with all the info, which you'd better do.
After the new OS gets completely installed, the program automatically restores the data from the back-up with all your settings, contacts, messages and 3rd party applications.

Not all together true...Third party apps must be specifically backed up. The back up done during an OS upgrade does not automatically do this. You can find the directions here

Well just finished the upgrade, and actually my 3rd party apps were all backed up when I upgraded to .122. I did choose to have the app loader backup my data, but that was the default selection during the upgrade process. I didn't have to do anything special, and my phone looked exactly like it did before the upgrade.

Glad to hear it. My understanding is MOST times what you did will work. I have also read where it did not and the user was forced to re-download all their apps. This method ensures that you will not have to go through the re-download if you are one of the unfortunate ones.

Additionally, many times you will at the very least, need to re-register your apps after the upgrade. I often times have to input keys again.

yeah you are right. I had to input passwords and other info for the apps that required them.

I usually do a WIPE before installing a new OS. If you generally wipe your device prior to 'upgrading' to an OS, then in THAT case you would in fact have to back up 3rd party apps PRIOR to installing the OS. (actually.. duh... prior to wiping)
Or, you will be forced to re install them after the upgrade.
