Are all of the Zen themes included in the Bharti download? I did the DL last night and got a few extra themes (Vodaphone, Orange, etc..) but nothing more than that. Did I get everything?
From what I've read I didn't.

should call this "zen theme for dummies", as in an easier solution than having to download a whole new competitor OS.

Help! Loading error after editing BlackBerry.alx
Hey guys,
I'm having the following error when running Application Loader Wizard, on a 8700g on T-Mo. This happened after I edited BlackBerry.alx to enable the Zen theme.
This is what happened:
1. I followed the instructions on jibi's page to edit BlackBerry.alx
I'm pretty sure I did it correctly, because I did the same thing on another 8700g on a different computer hours ago, and it worked just fine.
2. When I started Desk Manager after the edit, it did not prompt me to update the Core Components. So I went into Aplication Loader Wizard and clicked Next, based on jibi's instructions on the same page.
3. The following error pops up:
*Invalid Configuration*
The application "Browser" cannot be loaded, because it reuires the following applications that are not available:
net.rim.blackberry.xml
Anyone has any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

You're BlackBerry.alx is not in the correct location or something is messed up in it. That is Desktop Manager stating it can't find the file or its corrupt.

I see.. I'm trying to avoid a re-install. Since all I did was editing the file, I'm hoping to find an easy way to fix this.
Is there a generic or baslc BlackBerry.alx file I can copy from? Could file permissions/ownership have something to do with this error? (ie. file attributes changed after edit, etc?)
Thanks.

Just reinstall the same version of OS that you had previously installed and it'll overwrite or put in blackberry.alx and your device shouldn't be affected.

- Just above it, find something that looks like:
Code:
<fileset Theme="Normal" Colour="True" series="8700" Java="1.0" _vendorID="123|201|170|114|171|134|169|202">
Remove _vendorID="123|201|170|114|171|134|169|202" and close/save the file.
- Open Desktop Manager and it should prompt you to update the Core Components (if not, open Application Loader and click on Next).
You can do these same steps for any other theme, as well. Just search for 'vendorid' and remove the tags from the XML.

Jibi -
THANK YOU! This was really helpful, and WAY too easy! I was a bit reluctant to change OS, and this gives me Zen without the hassles.

Having a similar issue as the previous poster - no "Shared" folder underneath Research in Motion, just AppLoader, Modem Drivers, RimDeviceManager, USBDrivers. What 'exe' are you referring to, and where would I find it? Thanks very much.
using an 8700g (v4.1.0.284 on the handset)

I'm pretty good about following simple instructions, and post 6 is simple enough. I've used the blackberry.alx file provided on the original post about the upgrade. BUT, when I search for "zen" I only see entries for BB Dimension-Zen, not for anything else. And I don't have the vendor ID listed above for it. ??

Jibi,
Thanks for the tip and appreciate the assistance. Worked perfectly. Now to read up on hiding / moving icons in Zen.
***Note- found it . Thanks to another BBF member posting. Search is your friend

ok I am new to BB all together...have been on this site for a bit though...one thing I couldn't find in all my searches was the answer to this simple question:
"What is the big deal with the Zen theme?"
any help?
oh and I to run the 8700G from T-Mobile.

There's much commentary on this but it's divided over tons of threads. A quick summary: It frees your screen to view wallpapers and puts your apps in a drop-down menu. It is highly customisable in the OS .284 (Bharti/T-Mobile/Rogers) version but less so in the more recent Telstra version. I explained my disappointment with Testra Zen here.
Bottom line: you either love Zen or you think its stupid and prefer icons. I thought that it was stupid at first and now I use it 95% of the time which means, I guess, that I no longer think it's stupid.
