Exclamation Original T-Mobile 8100 with 8130 Dimension "L" Theme/Voice Recorder/Full Screen Media

Please Login to Remove!

So I decided to take my tmo 8100 running 4.2.1.107 and take the 8130 4.3.0.60 OS and copy the new Dimension "L" theme from the software package to the 8100 package. Ran app loader and loaded up no problem, even can fully load theme.

Issue is that when I go to the bottom list of icons I cannot get back up to the left handside menu options. If I pull up the full list menu i can access the apps, just not from the zen homescreen set.

I went into this not expecting it to work 100%, wanted to see others thoughts, especially John Clark. I have loaded it on to one of my 8100s will try the second a bit later tonight when it is fully charged. I will post directions on how I did this to see if there are anyother daring souls that want to take the risk like I have.

Note: in the alx file i added the line for referance to the L cod file under the dimension zen theme just like in the 4.3 os alx file. then copied the cod file to the java folder.

--------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: attaching ZIP file of the L theme COD file and my modified ALX file.

NOTES:
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY ISSUES YOU MAY HAVE USING THESE FILES CONTINUE ON AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!

READ CAREFULLY:
DO NOT OPEN DESKTOP MANAGER YET, OR CLOSE IF CURRENTLY RUNNING, DO NOT HAVE PEARL CONNECTED TO PC.
1) Delete 'vendor.xml' file in 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader'
2)Unzip the uploaded file.
3)Copy the 'BlackBerry.alx' file to 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8100-v4.2.1.108_P2.3.0.85' (THIS IS FOR 8100s RUNNING 4.2.1.108. Also themes hacked for any pearl in this alx file is the following: T-Mobile USA, AT&T, T-Mobile International, Rogers, TIM, Vodafone today WHITE ONLY. I did not unlock the other carrier themes as i do not use them. ALSO IT IS WISE TO COPY YOUR CURRENT 'BlackBerry.alx' TO ANOTHER FOLDER INCASE YOU WANT TO REMOVE THE 'HACK'.
4)Copy the 'net_rim_theme_bbdimension_l_240x260_b.cod' file to 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8100-v4.2.1.108_P2.3.0.85\Java'
5)Open Desktop Manager.
6)Connect your Pearl, after a few moments it should alert you that an update is available, click NO. DO A BACK-UP FIRST!!!
7)Click on application loader and keep hitting next till it loads the update to your Pearl
8)Click Finish and cross your fingers as your Pearl reboots.

You are more then welcome to try this, as noted the theme will load with no major (bricked, cannot call, cannot message, etc.) as I have seen. However when navigating the L once you move to the bottom row you cannot move back up to the left-hand side. Only way to access is through the applications/blackberry button. You can navigate again if you change themes, or do a battery pull. I ask for help in to solving this issue, to the brave. Thanks all.

--------------
EDIT2: Changed thread title to update what all is trying to be loaded on to a 8100. For L theme see this post, for Media and Voice Recorder see post 33.

I would be very interested in getting this to work. Please share the instructions with us.

Hey Dreamer

I'm VERY interested in your little trick. What is different about this theme that you're talkin about? I have not had a chance to take a run through an 8130.
Does anyone have the hack for the theme that I can use with my AppLoader?

the difference is it looks like a L on the idle home-screen. It is in a sense a combination of the dimension zen look with the T-Mobile zen look. So your icons are laid out in the shape of an L.

I will post screen shots and procedure tomorrow, I am on my mac and do not have the alx files on here to reference. Sorry.

As a preparation step download the 8100 OS set to your particular flavor, and then download the 8130 OS as well, run both installers and delete the vendor file.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0) BlackBerry8320/4.2.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/100)

Also to note I have not had any major issues due to this mod. Of course try this at your own risk. I am not responsible for any issues you may have. And as noted above the reason I started this thread is because I am having a small issue and looking for help. I am not saying I do not want to share this procedure, but honestly I would like to try and get it working completely myself before bricking others phones.

I know that in the older OS's all the themes relied on one another in order to work. It's possible that you need all the Dimension themes from the 4.3 OS loaded along with the L theme. I'm surprised that the theme even shows up at all. Good luck!

Thank you for the reply, just copied the all the theme cod files from the 4.3 OS java directory to the 4.2.1.107. About to run the app loader and see what happens.

Notes:
Installing on to a 4.2.1.107 original T-Mobile USA Black Pearl with original firmware (the small T-Mobile vendor start-up screen, not the new big T-Mobile). Will be doing a clean install, since this pearl is no longer used anyway.
Loading the 4.3.0.60 theme set onto this device with a clean install of the 4.2.1.107 OS, will wipe with JL_CMDR prior to install.
Unless I totally brick this pearl I will upload my modified alx file in its current nature, with note to all modifications made.
If this does brick the device I will post my original method for the daring to help me solve this issue.

This reminds me of an aspiring young Blackberry expert (so-called) who tried to copy Pearl OS .cod's from 4.2.0.42 to 4.2.0.64 in order to get the autobacklight disable feature back in the later OS. I got the line item back in the options menu but the setting wouldn't hold. 4.2.1 later added the feature back.

Oops...did I just mention that was me?

sidenote: this would be much easier if the carriers/RIM would just release 4.3 or even 4.2.2 for the pearl, but definitely 4.3 for the curve... i know this is pointless to talk about but while i am waiting to see results i am just venting...

new base firmware on the pearl, was done with the release of the white pear in december of last year. only early adopters see a difference. I have used many old firmware ones, and many new ones. However i will note IMO i personally have seen less errors with the old one, as to why i have two old and only one new. Other than that i cannot tell any known or documented changes, for all i know is it just updated the boot screen.

sad news all, I have actually taken a step backwards in this whole process, I am now downloading the 4.2.1.108 file set to try with my original method. Once I get this working again I will post procedure, for I did not brick the pearl, it just looks like an 6230 on the screen nice black and white, no animation. Very old school on a new phone. For all of your entertainment I am attaching the screen shot.

Note: it does still list the L theme in the theme menu I just cannot get it to work.

Oh yeah and here is proof on concept, sorry I know it is a REALLY bad picture, for some reason the curve would not focus correctly...

I would post a screen shot or take a picture with my actual camera, but since it is the fiancee's pearl it is with her at work.
