Question Are today themes avaliable on BB 8703e OS 4.2?

Please Login to Remove!

Are today themes avaliable on BB 8703e OS 4.2?

has anyone successfully installed a today theme besides the built-in vodaphone today theme?

I will be HAPPY with any TODAY theme besides that lame vodaphone theme.

Once Dimension Today is installed any theme builder themes should work.

I'm going to whip up a FAQ article on how to get Dimension Today on there later today.

why not keep these questions in the threads already started so we all get the same info. There are already six threads on this exact same thing

what are you talking about? the only thread i read about that was relevant to this was this one:

http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-106-cdma.html

and it was mostly about how none of the today themes work on the 8703e after upgrading to 4.2 from 4.1

and it's got other problems all over the thread, i thought it would be better to start a new one!

the problem is that dimension today can be installed using javaloader like from this thread:

Vodafone and Dimension Today Themes (8700 ONLY) - Download & Installation Information - PinStack.com

but you can't activate the theme in the theme menu once its loaded

wow...just wow...the first 3 topics are....drum roll

1. this thread

2. Latest OS: 8703 4.2.1.174/4.2.1.106 (CDMA) thread, which i mentioned already
http://www.blackberryforums.com/gene...-106-cdma.html

3. Theme Builder for the new 8703e OS? thread
http://www.blackberryforums.com/medi...-8703e-os.html

^ quite useful, but no where as much as 6 threads like you mentioned earlier

you could have just gone ahead in the beginning of this thread and said:

because the original today theme aka bb dimension today isn't installed, other themes like rogers bphone today theme won't work because it won't be able to call on the modules required to load up ANY today theme.

the zen/icon related themes like rogers bphone zen/icon theme work because the original bb dimension zen/icon theme modules are installed correctly, and they can call on the modules.

so question 2, how do we install the original bb dimension today theme correctly so that other today themes will also work?

There was more than three I just referenced the top three If you would read through all the threads you would have seen that the today was the only one not working. But its too easy to start a new thread to confuse others with

Of course 4.1.0 themes won't work on a 4.2.1 device.

I've installed it on 3 devices already. It's definitely doable. Be patient and I'll write it up.

I got bPhone today and the Dimension Today working on 4.2.1 for the 8703e.

I downloaded the latest build of 8700 software from T-Mobile Europe.
Blackberry
(Direct Link doesn't work) :(

Select: UK, Free Download Area, Devices, RIM Devices, 8700 4.2.1 rel 180, then 8700M_PBr4[1].2.1_rel180_PL2.3.0.86_A4.2.1.108.exe.

Take the net_rim_theme_bbdimension_today_320x240_w.cod from C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8700-v4.2.1.108_P2.3.0.86\Java and copy it to a different location (I used my desktop because I was lazy).

Use javaloader to load it to your device:
JavaLoader.exe -u load net_rim_theme_bbdimension_today_320x240.cod (fixed filename -- DOH!)

My device rebooted automatically after the load. Upon the OS loading, I now have the today theme as an option, and bPhone can be activated.

I have javaloader.exe since I have the JDE installed for Blackberry development, but I know that I've seen it online by itself.

Here's a modified ALX (and the COD) -- place the COD in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8703e-v4.2.1.106_P2.3.0.20\Java

And the ALX in:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\8703e-v4.2.1.106_P2.3.0.20

Fire up desktop manager, it should ask to update the BlackBerry core files on the device.

This should also stop it from trying to remove it.
