Default Windoze BB Desktop crashes when I try to install 8100 software v. xxx166

Please Login to Remove!

I am trying to enable Tomtom Plus Data services on my Tomtom GO720. I searched the forums and found that only one BB firmware version supports this feature. It's an old version, and currently only available on the BB Italy site.

I downloaded Desktop Manager on a Windows laptop and then downloaded the new firmare. When I tried to replace the firmware the DM crashed during install. My Pearl then only displayed a white window with a slashed through graphic and was no longer recognized by the laptop. My efforts to resescitate if failed. ATT Wireless tech support center folks gave me a new phone.

Now I'd like to try the firmware install again but I'm afraid to try because of what happened to my old phone.

Does anyone have any advice on how to do a firmware replacement on a Pearl?

TIA

Be sure to wait at least 45 minutes before worrying something is wrong during the upgrade. Leave it plugged in. Also the issue you swapped the phone for can usually be very easily corrected with the links above. Good luck.

Default Crazy Dude:

I did search the forum. I found the links you mentioned, but I don't find the Windows environment very intuitive concerning this issue. I can't figure out how to find the current BB OS as a stand alone file in order to delete it in "Add/Remove" programs. All I seem to be able to do is remove the entire Desktop Manager Program. I also can't access the older version software and delete the "vendor.xml" file as well. Can you guide me on these actions?

Thanks

desktop manager and device software are two different files. You are not changing the desktop manager. The only files you are install/uninstalling for your case is device software.
device software can be found here=>BlackBerry Operating System Downloads - BlackBerryFAQ

**you are looking for device software v. xxx166 NOT desktop manager***

Default thanks folks! got 'er done!

As usual, I missed a step: I deleted the "vendor.xml" folder BEFORE installing the program. So, I never got the App Loader up; I was simply erasing my BB's memory and not installing anything. Now I have the OS version I wanted and data transfer to my Tomtom 720.
