Not exactly.
If you've enabled location tracking via IT policy, then there is a chance that the last known GPS coordinates for the handheld are recorded in the BES SQL database in the SyncLBS table.
Unfortunately, there's no user-friendly way to see this information via BAS.
You'd need to use some SQL queries and access the database directly.

In my experience, it's a waste of time. The data you might get is probably outdated anyway. Definitely not real-time, or even current.

I think its impossible to track the lost phone. If any tracking app was installed in the phone then contact with the company they will help you in this regard. I would like to suggest that install the tracking app in new smart phone to overcome the such type of problem.

most pros that steal phones remove the battery quickly or put it into a metal case so no tracking can happen

On top of that, phones update their co-ordinates even when they can't see the satetelites, which means if they lost their phone inside, it will tell you that the phone is in the Atlantic ocean.

My tracking history shows me, that the phone does not update the location when there is no reception. The value I read in the sql table of the BES stays at the last point where the phone was able to determine its location. Data is accurate every 15 mintes.

But regarding to the original Question:
if you have not turned on Enterprise location tracking, it wont help to turn it on afterwards, because besides the obvious (battery down, phone will be reset to factory asap by anyone who wants to keep it), Enterprise location tracking requires the user of the handheld to confirm that he will be tracked. This is no longer possible when lost.

You can call your wireless provider, give him the IMEI of the phone (you find on BAS in the properties of the phone). They should be able to block the IMEI, so at least the phone is useless for someone who wants to steal it. Of course there are ways to change the IMEI even of a blackberry.

The only thing you currently can do is, if the phone still is running, lock it, and put a message on the screen: please bring me back to home, adress: ....
