Default Blackberry DOES NOT plan to drop BB10

Please Login to Remove!

"Last week we shared the latest plan to keep advancing our smartphone portfolio. Unfortunately, the news was misinterpreted by many – from the media, to tech observers, to our fans and customers.

bb10 phone and logoI made the rounds the past couple of days with the press to set the record straight, and the message was this – BlackBerry is not backing away from BB10. Our customers depend on the BB10 platform and they are the ones that drive our roadmap.

That is why we are committed to not just maintaining BB10 software, but advancing it to be even more secure and provide even greater productivity. You’ll see that with the next 10.3.3 update coming within the next month, which will be focused on enhancing our already-stellar privacy and security features.

Future BB10 software updates for 2017 are already in the works. Meanwhile, BlackBerry 10 devices such as the BlackBerry Passport and Leap are still available to our loyal customers."

- Marty Beard, COO, Blackberry

Blackberry has not been able to market the products. A short while ago they indicated they would move to software and away from hardware. Was this also a misunderstanding? Reality is they need to be a lot more aggressive in the marketing and try to understand why the carriers don't even list blackberry products unless you specifically search for them. AT&T is one example.
As for support, go to their knowledge base link and look for information. the old site gave extreme detail, the new site is essentially useless.
They seem to have lost direction. The Blackberry phones were very secure. Moving to Android, the most hacked phone in the world is their direction.

My suggestion is to fire the CEO and a few others and redirect the company to the real reason the phone did well. Ok keep the keyboard and touch display but remember security.

Check the stock numbers if you think they are doing a good job. they went from over $30 5 years ago to 6.69 today.

You are right about aggressive marketing. I am beginning to see a lot of consumer fatigue with a two OS market (Android and iOS) and people will be willing to look at alternatives.

They need a new Flagship BB10 device, aggressive marketing and ensure some commonly used services are available as apps.

I for myself would continue to use my BB Z10 but it doesn't have a viable offline maps solution. It used to have NaviMaps but it's no longer supported. Lots of folk will miss up today's native apps of Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, FB etc.

That may be the biggest problem BB has, dropping support for various apps or simply not offering newer ones. Simple upgrades can cause Apps a user wants to be obsoleted and some feel necessary to switch devices. BB may think it will force users to upgrade to their newer deices but sales show that is not happening. Apple tried the same tactic and now are seeing a big slowdown in sales. Users want a stable supported device and one that will be able to use new apps as they appear. They also want to know they are secure and don't have to worry about hacking like the Android world is now experiencing.

True. BB at least has a brand reputation of security. They must encash it. I am sure they know all of this. Wonder whats up?

You think they haven't tried? The buying public doesn't care about BlackBerry's "security". The brand has been tainted since the Storm came out, and they have not been able to differentiate BB10 from iOS and Android. People know about it, but they don't care. It isn't relevant.

Now if they could figure out how to do that, they could get some traction. Right not, sitting at < 1% of global sales, they aren't even an afterthought. And I personally don't believe we will ever see another BB10 device.

Unfortunately I think NJ is correct.
Their stock at $6.65 is quickly approaching penny stock prices.

This shows what bad management can do to a company.

And also how quickly a company can lose First Mover Advantage if they don't continue to innovate. They simply couldn't see what the iPhone was going to do to their market.

Losing The Signal was very well written and can be part of the Harvard Business School business case on how to screw up a business.

A Touch of aggressive and potent marketing is what they need.

The market is suggesting a flat report and it looks like they like it.
today the quote is $7.24

Seems like they are selling something but what.

BlackBerry still makes phones?

I get that all the time from the lack of marketing

Now that they do not support Windows 10 for Link required to manage OS10 phones and Sync needs it's only a matter of time before they announce they want software only. sadly they think they can sell their software products and make money.

Their web site shows a concentration on Business and the latest file sharing software they are pushing.

As I suggested before , time to fire a few people.

I think, they might succeed selling only Software and Server products, However, that will again lead to another scale down of their business. Wait another year and RIMs remainings will be bought by HP.

Blackberry operates in 32 countries and 77 cities. How many do you think will be left if they do only software?
Like other companies dumping hardware, they may sell big but the closed offices and dropped employees is something that will happen.

This is what happens when the senior management is clueless why they have the market share they have and make changes and keep losing but think they are smarter than the numbers.
