Question How To Setup An Unlocked/Unbranded 9700 For AT&T

Please Login to Remove!

I have bought a gen-yoo-wine RIM factory unlocked/unbranded 9700 from a member/seller in Canada, and I'm kind of excited...

But, I suddenly thought "how do I set it up for AT&T service?"

When I get it this Friday, is it just a matter of wiping the device and loading the latest official AT&T OS5 build release, and going from there? Do I have to get AT&T to send service books to my new phone? And...what about Visual Voicemail? Will it simply be a bi-product of the AT&T OS version or will it hit my phone when they send service books?

I know I sound like a n00b...but I've never had an unlocked/unbranded BlackBerry before and want to make sure I do things right!

Thanks for the help!

There's nothing you need to do other than putting in your SIM card.

(Assuming the device functional, actually unlocked, and the previous owner doesn't have their BIS/BES account still linked to it.)

Supposed to be BNIB never turned on or activated.

Will I have to do anything special to get the VVM icon to appear on my homescreen, and have it provisioned?

BNIB?

When you turn it on you will see what you have to do. As Penguin said, insert your AT&T SIm and turn it on. If the SIM doesn't have a BB data plan activated on it, you will need to call AT&T and activate one. If you already have a BB on BIS, then you will need to log into your BIS account and change the IMEI and PIN to that of the new device.

Do you know which frequency band the device has? If it is the standard Rogers/AT&T then you will have 3G. If it is the TMO bands, then it will only be EDGE.

The guy sending the phone to me says it's quad-band so will be fine with AT&T 3G. I just got off the phone with RIM customer care, and they told me that all the phones that come from RIM itself as retail units are unbranded, and are compatible with the Rogers/AT&T 3G network.

Thanks for the help guys. I've been around BB a while, and should know these things...but for some reason or another, didn't.

Quad band relates to GSM not 3G by the way.

What band does AT&T 3G operate on? What band does T-Mobile's 3G operate on?

AT&T uses 850/1900 MHz
T-Mobile uses 1700/2100 MHz
