Exclamation Help!! Please...

Please Login to Remove!

So recently, My trackball decided to stop working all-together. I have no idea why, nor can anyone help fix it. I took it in to alltel (my provider) and they told me they can't fix it because it's a verizon phone. So I took it to verizon and they told me they can't fix it because i'm an alltel customer! So i ordered a replacement trackball from amazon and installed it and it will scroll left to right.. but it's not able to CLICK. So I can't go into options and everything. I can only scroll left and right. I'm at a loss on what to do. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Berryfan84

Maybe it's just not lined up correctly. Did you look at the instructions for cleaning your trackball. I think there are some pictures there.

Berryfan84,

You are better than I. I wouldn't even try to replace. Solution I had is to have extended warranty. Even that took long enought to effect. (Has to be repaired 3 time - and the delays in that) before it was replaced.

read the "trackball click won't enter" (or whatever the thread is called). There are several threads detailing the cleaning process. I actually had the problem and cleaned the contacts just this week and its better than ever. Basically, that gold square is really a piece of yellow tape that holds a little metal "dish" over the metal contact of the circuit board. When you press the trackball it flattens the dish against the circuit board and registers your press. You either have dirt or corrosion on the metal either on the board or on the dish. You have to peel up the tape and clean the dish and the contact on the board.

Personally, I scraped both the metal pieces with a tiny eyeglass screwdriver to remove any potential corrosion and then cleaned them with a Q-tip soaked in rubbing alcohol. Let them sit and dry for a while and then reassemble. If the gold tape isn't sticky anymore trash it and use a little square of packing tape (I wouldn't use scotch tape as it doesn't tend to hold well over time).

You will need a little screwdriver or any small metal item for scratching/scraping. A Q-tip, rubbing alcohol and some tape.

There are very detailed instructions and photos in one of the threads. This works!

Default Still Fails...

I took off and cleaned everything.. the button still won't click. It scrolls up, down, left, and right... But it refuses to click/enter. Any other suggestions? I can't take it to get it looked at. Do you think RIM would cover it? It's still under warranty.

this wont solve you issue with the getting the clicks to register, but you can use the enter key instead of the track ball click...

If it's still under warranty, it should be covered. I would contact your carrier.
