Default Help!!! Just Got First Blackberry

Please Login to Remove!

Please help. I am lost. I just got my first Blackberry. 8700 with T-Mobile USA.
Using my current e-mail address (not a Blackerry e-mail address) with Blackberry Internet E-Mail. I have a couple of very basic question that are so simple the guidebooks do cover them. Here goes:

1) Does my computer need to be on or off in order to receive e-mail on my Blackberry?

2) Once I open an e-mail in Outlook will it also go to my Blackberry and visa versa... If I receive an e-mail on my Blackberry, will it also go to Outlook too? FYI, I have Roadrunner via Time Warner.

Is there anywhere on the web that I can go to find answers to the basics.

Any help would be appreciared.

The state of your computer does not matter for you to receive email. The email is pushed to your device from the server. All email will show on your blackberry as long as you do not have filters setup. If you read it on your outlook, it should show as read on your blackberry and vice versa. You are at a good place to find answers to the basics. Use the search feature. also try Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ

Thanks. FYI, I'm using Outlook Express, not Outlook. And, I'm only getting a fraction of my e-mail on the Blackberry. I assumed that it was because I was opening them first in Outlook Express but obviously I'm wrong. All I did was set up the e-mail on the Blackberry was there software that I should have installed into the computer. Help!!!

Default Guess

If I had to guess, I would say that it is likely that your desktop version of Outlook Express is configured so that emails are removed from the server once they are downloaded. Go into your email options on the desktop, and check to see if "leave mail on server" is checked. It should be, with however many days you want to leave it there, and then all emails should come to the BB.

Are you on a BIS or BES data plan? Setting up your BIS POP accounts should be easy via the blackberry site. Make sure you download the Desktop Manager that came with the device onto your pc as well.

Also, if all your e-mails filter into Outlook, you can have all of them pushed to the BB as well.

I went to Outlook Express, Tools, then Options and can't find the "leave mail on server option." Am I looking in the right place?

By BIS, do you mean Blackberry Internet E-Mail vs. Enterprise? If so the answer is yess. I'm using Blackberry Internet E-Mail.

I'll try downloading Desktop Manager.

Thanks everyone!

I don't use Outlook Express, but in Outlook you would follow a path somewhat like:

Tools -> E-mail accounts -> Edit Account

and it would be buried there, probably under an advanced options setting.

I think that the OP might have installed the Re-Director.... do you only get email when you PC is turned on? Did you actually configure a BIS account to go and get the email from outlook?
