You will need the assistance of your IT department to switch to a new device.
The new BlackBerry will need to go through an Enterprise Activation in order for you to be able to send/receive email, calendar, contacts, etc.

If you are on BES 9 (which it sounds like), then you cannot swap BBs without authorization from the BES administrator as you cannot activate an unauthorized device on BES.

does your company have any 9700's? If they do then my next question is do the yreplace the 8530 with a newer unit? if so then it's amazing how things break!!

I would like to do the same thing and upgrade my 8700 to a 9700, and my company is also very restrictive.

For the experts out there, can I not simply use the enterprise activation function on the balckberry itself to activate it?

Also, if you could please describe the enterprise activation procedure for a lay person like me. For example, does the Administrator have to setup the specific blackberry itself on BES, meaning the PIN has to be registered?

Thanks for all the help.

You need an activation password to use that feature. The password is set by your BES administrator and expires after each use.

This is different for each environment. No one here can possibly tell you what your company's policies and procedures are.
