you should be able to do a hybrid installation, using the 8707's 4.1.0.394/4.1.0.316 software with the rim8700g.sfi file (found in the GPRS folder of the installation directory) in place of the UMTS handheld stack (just copy the GPRS directory from one to the other).

I tried but even after deleting vendor.xml apploader could not find a valid image for my device.

So it looks like this is a no go unless I did something wrong.

Good advice. This loading of 8707 software on the 8700 strikes me as a solution that's looking for a problem.

Hey Jibi... not sure if you've seen this yet, but looks like Blackberrycool.com picked up on this thread

Yeah, I sent them a note just after I posted it here. Kind of neat.

Thank you again jibi for everything you do. Dimension Today worked great OTA on my 8700g running Telstra.

But my first impression isn't that good, I want to be able to tweak and customize. At least with Zen I can get a weather icon using the browser push they rolled out not long ago. I'll run it awhile longer in case it grows on me.

Ive downloaded both but for some reason, just get the icon display and not the today screen, despite having selected the 'today' screen from the themes list. Am I doing something wrong? The phone resets when I set it to the 'today' screen from the themes list - is this normal?

Not true for me. My Telstra 8700g with Dimension Today shows my 7pm flight tonight as well as an appointment coming up this Sunday.

I definitely prefer Dimension Today. You get two emails displayed on the home screen. I also find the lack of a hotkey for emails in Vodafone Today to be an inexplicable and significant loss. Anyway these themes are fun but definitely works in progress.
Coop, how were you able to get 2 emails on the home screen in the Dimension today theme? I have tried to change what email is currently on my home screen (currently my yahoo) to my blackberry.net account, or possibly have both on there. I have seen others posts saying they have different choices on the home screen, if anyone can help me I would appreciate the help.

Still playing with the themes, can't comment on function but seems as good as free today screen minus the weather and stock feeds. Will they put those in as future upgrades to the today themes? Would be sweet!

Sounds like you are using T-Mobile's BIS 2.0 and while I only know how that works from what I've read here, I would assume that Dimension Today will only display emails from your main Messages inbox, not the extra inboxes that BIS 2.0 creates for individual accounts.

What I meant is that Dimension Today will show the two most recent emails that arrived on your homescreen whereas Vodafone Today will only show one. (The caveat to that is that if you go into look at the message, or go into your inbox, it clears the display. So you're only going to see two on your homescreen if you receive two before you clear the display.)

You can't customise these themes. Not this version anyone; maybe down the road.

Thanks Coop! I noticed that Vodaphone's today screen has a seperate listing for SMS and MMS messages compared to Dimension's 1. The upside is that Dimesion will show my unread messages on the banner and my blackberry.net account on the today screen, plus I can change the home screen picture which makes it even better.

The new themes seem to be a migration in the right direction.

Thanks JIBI for helping us "technophobes" customize our BB's and get the most out of them.

Just a quick note. When I go to this thread on my BB, I see both OTA downloads (BB Dimension-Today, and Vodafone Today), but on my computer with IE, I only see the Vodafone text and link. Better that way than the reverse I suppose!

Also, a useful link for this thread: ZEN, O2, Orange & Vodafone Themes (8700 ONLY) with instructions on installing these advanced themes.

Default OTA for Vodafone Today

OK, so I followed the excellent instructions by Jibi for the Vodafone theme, downloaded OTA and it runs fine even on my 4.10.284 T-Mobile 8700g. I am a Mac computer user so OTA upgrades are pretty much my only option, hense changine my OS is also not an option (unless someone can tell me what I am not understanding).

Anyway, I would like to use the Vodafone Today theme but the OTA url for this always gives me a 404 error - page not found. Same for the Dimension Today url. Is this because of the OS on my BB or something else. Could anyone offer another url from which I could try a OTA install?

Thanks in advance for any help.
